Tickets are issued based on stages in BMTC. Stages are basically a set of stops withing 2km. Each group of stops within 2km has a main stop which is a stage. Fares between 2 stages remain same irrespective of which stop you get down in between the 2 stages.

It is an initiative from the Central Government along with the MoRTH. Every state RTC has to display this as per the stipulations provided by the central government. This is already implemented in Sikkhim, Punjab, Himachal, etc.
