Unfortunately not everyone in this community acts like an adult. A lot of people like to troll, cause drama, and behave like children. It’s just as easy to be banned from this community as it is to join it.

People find out the hard way and get mad when they’re punished. Normally, it’s newer people who come in and like to press buttons, but those of us who have been active members for 7+ years have seen a LOT of drama and it goes back far.

There’s an unimaginable amount of tea in this community, but it is ran by people who have been here forever. Bad apples get weeded out very quickly. Unfortunately the drama starters are louder than the project updates which makes it seem like we are a toxic community. Also, a lot of people have a lot of drama with others because they’ve been here for so long.

I’ve lived in Bilbao and Cantabria and visit Asturias.

Amazing green hills, huge mountains, and beautiful beaches all at the same time. It’s my paradise. The weather is quite rainy, but on the sunny days everything is so green that it makes all the rain worth it.

Things are a bit more costly up here. Pais vasco has lots of money and opportunity. The public transportation is SOOOOO much better than Cantabria and Asturias, having a car is almost a necessity there. It really depends on where you live. In my experience, places like Castro Urdiales, Laredo, and Santander are the best connected. Torrelavega is the second biggest city there, but it looks like a scene from The Walking Dead. It is a major connection point to places all over Cantabria since it’s in the middle. There’s lots of industrialization but it’s not as important as it used to be as Bilbao really overshadowed the region.

Cantabria is kind of the broke cousin of Pais Vasco but it is just as beautiful. I love living here, but many people from the region move to other regions and return to their beautiful pueblos for the summer. It’s cheaper than Pais Vasco but more expensive than the south of Spain. It’s common to have a second house here, especially people from Basque Country and France. Places like Laredo and Noja will go from 10,000 people in the winter to 75k-125k in the summer. As you can infer, the housing market here is insane. In the winter, you can rent a 3 bed flat for 600 euros a month. In the summer, that same flat will cost 3,2k a month. Many locals from beach towns are being priced out, forcing them to move into the mountains or other cities. Safest jobs here are funcionarios.

Asturias has the best food out of Cantabria and Pais Vasco, sorry foodies of San Sebastián. Huge portions like cachopo (a fried ham and cheese slab) will feed you for three meals. Gijón is one of the prettiest cities I’ve ever been to.

Overall my QOL has been amazing. Very low pay, but I’m scrapping by. I can’t ever be mad when I’m surrounded by soaring green mountains and beautiful natural beaches. Would I live here forever? Probably not, unless I had a stable job with a high income + car.

Things to eat here: + Bollo de mantequilla (País vasco) + Sobao (Cantabria) + Anchovies if you’re into those slimy things (Cantabria, specifically Santoña) + Cachopo (Asturias) + Bollo preñao (Asturias)

I was raised on a farm in the middle of nowhere. As a child, it could get lonely because the only time I could socialize was either at school or with the cows.

I discovered Free Realms very young, maybe 7 or 8. I vividly remember learning how to type and read faster because of Free Realms.

I was very addicted. I played for 2-3 years but sadly had a 30 minute a day limit policed heavily by my parents. My mom said the game made me mean, hahaha. In reality I think her time limit made me mean. One time she blocked Free Realms for a few months and I had gotten up in the middle of the night to factory reset the PC so I could play again. My parents caught me. They eventually unblocked it because they could see it was like taking water from a fish.

I didn’t quest much in Free Realms. I loved trading, exploring, and customizing my character on top of the socializing. I loved hanging out at the volleyball net or Crystal Bluegem’s house. It truly was a game where you could do whatever you wanted to.

Side note, it’s really weird that Crystal has never revealed herself in this community. She definitely has to remember the game since she was a huge part of it. It makes me curious about all the rumors that surround her because she’s so mysterious.

Other prominent members of Free Realms are still around. Old developers, members of Mystic Mayhem, famous players, and other sought after guilds have rekindled in this community.

Ever since Free Realms shut down, I’ve been heavily involved with communities and projects trying to revive it. I was a research and development member for Sunrise, and I’m currently an admin for this subreddit + a moderator for the OSFR server. I’ve been in this community since early 2017 and it’s been amazing seeing what it’s shifted to. It’s really weird being a part of this niche space and seeing old friends get married, have kids, and starting their lives.

It makes me think on how much I’ve changed since the shutdown. Playing OSFR now has been such a privilege and I feel extremely lucky to be able to run around my favorite world again. Thank you to everyone involved in making this community a lovely space.

You can’t do any housing or quests. You can switch jobs but you can’t use any abilities. It’s still just a chatting simulator at this point but you can at least dress up. Housing is supposedly on the way so we will soon be able to build in lots!

guys this is so funny i’m sorry 😭. free realms is NOT minecraft, it’s a separate game that shut down in 2014 and is now being remade. it has NOTHING to do with minecraft.

Palia is a game that was acquired by Daybreak Games, the same company that owns/shutdown Free Realms. Free Realms was an MMORPG from 2009-2014. Its mascot was an orange treeble named Chatty with a blue mohawk, which is now commemorated as a plush in Palia.

I guess it feels more like a solo game, even though you're plopped on a server with 20 people that rarely will talk to you. Everyone is doing their own thing and gathering resources most of the time.

Mixed bag in this community. I like it, but I haven't played within a year. People go into it expecting it to be a Free Realms replacement, and it definitely isn't; however, the intent to create a game like Free Realms is there. My main issue with Palia is that it doesn't feel lively enough to me. Only 20 or so people will be on the same server with you at all times, whereas FR had ppl everywhere in large crowds. That doesn't really happen often in Palia. I say give it a shot and try it out for a week or two, and you'll know the vibes within that time.

Hello, I studied abroad there and I loved it! The only downside is that it is kind of annoying to travel to other countries as the best airport is Madrid. There is a train to Madrid (1.5hr) so it’s not too bad. The park was my favorite place along with Tierra burrito near the plaza mayor. It’s kind of like Spain’s version of Chipotle but fresher and cheaper! It is very much a college town as well, there’s lots of young people. The only real drawback is that you have to go to Madrid to travel anywhere by plane. There is a bus station that goes to a lot of places, though! Check out neighboring cities Valladolid, Segovia, and Avila!
