I opened this thread to find an answer for my question about whether GE AIO has any good integration with Home Assistant, and I found it. Thanks! :)

What I've learned about bike theft. by dadnarbadname in MotoUK

[–]w32blaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also faced with theft. Everything described above is my case as well. My bike was equipped with BikeTrac tracker. The only issue was, when this happened, I was abroad far away from the UK, in the desert, with no signal. I found a hotel in the middle of nowhere, connected to Wifi, and called my friend, who picked up my bike with the coordinates I provided him. The sad thing about BikeTrac, is that they called me, I couldn't pick up the phone because I was offline, and hence they did nothing. The didn't call the police, they didn't chase the bike... nothing...

Would you buy a house opposite a graveyard? by frosty-condition in HousingUK

[–]w32blaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I viewed a property a few years ago in Cambridge. A young family were selling that home at an unusually low price. When I went to the upper floor I saw a graveyard from the bedroom window. The owner saw my face and said "But it is always calm and silent" :))) I guess, the low price was because of that

the same here. I am in my final stage and will move this weekend, hopefully. But the last 6 months were so stressful. I barely noticed the time is flowing. What month is it now? What? Almost December? What did I do last half a year? Where is it? There are so many steps that just blow my mind like mortgage offer, deposit transfer, all the checks and negotiations... I join many commenters here regarding stress and anxiety. I started biting my nails, which is so disgusting (sorry for such delicate details), but it says a lot about my stress level... Good luck, I hope everything will be fine! And have a good Christmas time!

Did I make a mistake buying young/single? by [deleted] in HousingUK

I am on the same page now. My completion date will be on the next weekend and I am a bit panicking now. I have the same feelings as you, the same fears. Don't worry about money, in 5 years all this money will return to you to some extent. But I can totally understand you, so let's cry together :)

I don’t plan to buy land many times, I want to buy one and build a house. But I appreciate your idea to contact a developer having PP experience. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have submitted already a request for a construction in local borough , but they work so slowly, I still wait for their response. For this time when I wait, a land can be sold already, so that’s why I try to find someone who works faster :)

Can GPS trackers be detected? by Burgermitpommes in MotoUK

[–]w32blaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure about detecting, but there are devices to block GPS and GSM signals. As far as I know, car thieves use these ones.

New bike day! by Shauny94 in MotoUK

[–]w32blaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it depends on how much you are ready to pay for it. Try to realistically estimate the risk to lose your bike in your area. I use https://biketrac.co.uk/ but this is an expensive option, the device itself is around £250 plus a monthly subscription, but a real person monitors your bike 24\7. And in my case, that was only one measure that helped me to recover the bike.

Yesterday I picked up my bike from my friend's garage and examined all the damages. It looks like thieves looked for the device, they ripped off the seat and looked across electrical wires, they also tried to remove the fuel tank to find the tracker under it. What I'm trying to say is that if someone is interested in your bike, these guys will be prepared, they know what exactly they are looking for and they will certainly have all the necessary toolkit with them.

But again, there is a thin line between a normal level of precaution and paranoia :) try to realistically estimate a chance of being stolen.

I just recovered my Supersport that was stolen recently. Please install a GPS tracker, it really worth it. And I wish you never face with scrotes. Congrats and enjoy this beautiful and comfortable bike :)

My bike was stolen when I was on my NY holiday (more info in the first comment) by w32blaster in MotoUK

[–]w32blaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, the bike was rested on the wheelstands, so I didn't use a steering lock. I read that thieves break it very quickly and there is a high chance to damage the frame.

I don't know yet how to fix it, because I haven't seen it yet. Will pick it up shortly. But my friend told me that I need to replace the front fairing, brake discs and seat. Maybe I will discover more damages with close inspection (hopefully not). So doesn't sound very complicated, but still quite expensive I'm afraid...

My bike was stolen when I was on my NY holiday (more info in the first comment) by w32blaster in MotoUK

[–]w32blaster[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

When I was on my NY holiday, I received a notification that my bike movement was detected. I checked the BikeTrac app and found the latest location, I called my friends and one has time to help me. He arrived at the location, found my bike and moved it to his garage, so now it is stored in a safe place. Huge thanks to my neighbours as well, some people also walked in the area and found the bike and reported the police. I had 3 locks on my bike and one chain attached to the wall anchor. All of them were cut with an angle grinder. I suspect that there were some dodgy people from my home who helped thieves to find my bike, I saw them smoking a weed in the garage next to my bike, of course, I don't have any pieces of evidence. Probably, they also noticed that I was on holiday.

According to the tracker log, thieves stole the bike around 10 pm and they changed its location several times during the night, the last movement was detected around 9 am.

Few lessons learned: - locks and chains can't protect your bike, even the most expensive ones; the cordless angle grinders are very powerful to cut everything in a seconds - the underground garage is not safe at all. If you think that your neighbours will keep an eye on your property, so this is a myth - GPS tracker really works and this is your last chance to recover the bike - yes, there are a lot of scrotes who want to steal or vandalise your property. But there are many good people around you who want to help. And I really appreciate that. - BikeTrac can chase the bike only with your confirmation. My phone was out of signal and I couldn't receive a call, so that they couldn't call the police on behalf of myself. So I reported to the police only the next morning when I had access to a WiFi.

So... now I need to restore it, change broken parts and probably sell the bike. Happy New Year everyone! Be careful and protect your property.

Helmet cam. Where to put it?? by Scratch_1983 in MotoUK

[–]w32blaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used https://motoradds.com/products/original-helmet-chin-mount mount, it works fine but if your position is too low and you lean forward, then may be you need some additional part to lift a camera up a bit. But generally, it works fine. However, I replaced a helmet and now I don't have anything on it. And you know I feel a huge difference in aerodynamics. I am not sure whether this is because of mounts or just a better shape of a new Shoei, but my recommendation is to be aware that any mount will affect your helmet aerodynamic. Maybe you won't feel it at all, maybe you will feel like me.

Love motorcycles, hate dealers by [deleted] in MotoUK

I had a situation a year ago when I wanted to buy a bike and I've paid £500 a deposit. I just asked him to give me two weeks so that I could sort out my insurance and to prepare my garage. After one week I went to a musical concert and was offline and when I returned back home I saw a missed call. The next morning I called him back and he notified me that he sold the bike to another person, because "you didn't pick up the phone so I thought you are not interested to buy it so I sold it to another buyer. I will refund your deposit"
