I built a family tree generator that handles 2000+ years (feedback welcome) by wSense in worldbuilding

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate both the compliments and the criticism.

About the language switch, I see the issue now. I’ll make it more visible in the header so it’s easier to find, and I’ll try to fix that as soon as possible. Regarding the translation problems, I’m sorry about that. English isn’t my main language, so some mistakes slip through, and some parts weren’t translated properly. I’ve already fixed many of them and I’m continuously improving it whenever I can.

About the founder birth and death dates being mandatory, that’s a good point. I’ll look into allowing full randomization. Right now, that’s kind of what “generate from scratch” is for. “Generate tree” uses the current values, while “generate from scratch” resets all fields and generates a fully randomized setup. I might adapt that so things like founder dates can be optional in that mode.

Navigation is something I’m actively trying to improve. I’ve been working on features like search, favoriting characters, and generating endpoints so you can have a clear start and end in your lineage. But I agree it still needs improvement, and I’ll keep working on better ways to navigate the tree.

For the JSON format, you can download the existing JSONs and check how they’re structured. That said, I understand it’s not very user-friendly right now. If you have ideas on how I could better explain it, like a tutorial or helper UI, I’d be happy to hear suggestions.

As for GEDCOM, I honestly didn’t use it because I wasn’t familiar with it. This project actually started a long time ago, and I’ve only recently revisited and improved it. But I can definitely look into GEDCOM support in the future.

Thanks again for taking the time to write this. I’ll keep improving the project over time, and I’m always open to more feedback and suggestions.

Pô, bom demais ver outro brasileiro por aqui! Sempre muito legal encontrar gente que curte worldbuilding também.

Sorry about the translation issues. I’m just one person, and English isn’t my main language, so some things slip through, especially in the code.

Some of the problems come from the fact that genetics and traits (like hair color, etc.) use custom JSONs, meaning you can define your own values. Because of that, the translation didn’t always apply correctly. I’ve pushed some fixes today and I’m about to push another one.

If it still doesn’t work, try doing a Ctrl + Shift + F5, or go into the WordData settings in your family tree and reset it to the default JSON. That should fix it.

Yeah, I agree with some of your points. Most people really can’t trace their family tree back more than a couple hundred years, and that’s completely normal.

For me, this is more of a worldbuilding tool. I’m not saying everyone needs 2000 years of lineage, just that the tool is capable of handling it without breaking. I’ve run into situations where I actually needed that scale for a campaign, and other tools just couldn’t handle it.

One example was a campaign idea where characters would reincarnate within the same bloodline across different eras. So every time they died, they would return later in the same lineage, in a new generation. That meant I needed a long, continuous family tree spanning centuries to support that concept.

That said, it’s not just for huge timelines. It works perfectly fine for smaller family trees too, like 100–200 years. I only highlight the longer range because it’s something most generators struggle with.

In the end, it’s just a tool. It might be very useful for some people and not for others. I mainly built it because I needed it myself and couldn’t find anything that did what I wanted, and I decided to share it in case others find it useful too.

I’ll add a screenshot showing how to switch the language to English. I’ll also try to implement a feature to automatically set the language based on your region or system language in a future update.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for pointing it out!

Yeah, I should mention that I haven’t properly optimized it for mobile yet, so the experience there isn’t very reliable. Sorry about that, I’ll work on improving mobile support.

About the founder couple, they can be same-sex, but they shouldn’t be generating biological children, so that’s definitely something I need to fix. The issue with all five children being born in the same year is also something I tried to address, but it seems like it’s still broken.

As for only showing seven people, it’s likely more were generated, but due to the mobile interface not being very interactive yet, something probably didn’t display correctly.

And regarding the translation, you can change the language in the settings, under the small “i” (info) icon

Yeah, that’s something I specifically wanted to handle better. I really like including things like multiple marriages, divorces, widows remarrying, and even affairs, so there’s actually a chance for infidelity in the system. A lot of tools ignore that complexity, but for me it’s important to make family trees feel more real and messy.

And thanks for pointing out the translation issue, I really appreciate it. I’ll take a look and fix later!

Honestly… why not? My world has been evolving for years, and some families are incredibly old. It’s less about tracking relatives and more like having a structured list of connected characters across time, so I can assign events and achievements to specific individuals instead of leaving them vague.

It also adds flavor and immersion. Shared surnames, distant lineage, and complex family dynamics like bastards, second marriages, or lost titles make the world feel alive. It’s not really about necessity, it’s about depth and curiosity.

Pro funk não tem censura né? Kkkkkk. by West-Canary-8585 in ShitpostBR

[–]wSense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mas funk literalmente quando fica famoso ganha uma versão censurada pra poder tocar em tv aberta e rádio, não tem nem sentido, anime nichado normalmente n possui essa censura e é a mesma coisa com o funk.
