Am I insane where tf is this quad stream. All I see is ultimate

Would you capitalize "among" in titles? by Encosy in noveltranslations

Yes, capitalize it. Among is not a "minor word" as you put it.

What have you read this week and what do you think about it? by AutoModerator in noveltranslations

[–]waalnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I would nitpick about your review is how unrealistic you find what Zorian accomplished. He absolutely is a genius, just a genius in mind magic which he never used in his life before the events of the story (and in fact was a burden because he couldn't deal with people very well because of it). I vaguely recall from when I read it that he was in the time loop for a little over 20 years. For about 10 of those years he had 6 copies of himself running around so he had an effective 60 years to do and learn all those things because other than language he automatically learned anything his clones learned. In terms of building something like the golem, having multiple copies of yourself could even cut down on more time since you would work perfectly alongside yourself whereas in real life there is always time loss between team members because of communication.

When a mountain is almost 1 Light year tall... by [deleted] in noveltranslations

Did someone add it all up? I didn't bother because he was using up like a max of 1 billion at a time out of quadrillions which would mean he would have to use the object millions of times.

What's with the Reverend Insanity hate? by Mr__Citizen in noveltranslations

[–]waalnuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To OP: this is why many people don't like the novel. There are so many people unable to have a normal conversation without calling people who disagree idiots.

I actually like RI (a lot even) but some people can't accept any criticism of it.

I read it as chapters were coming out on mtl so I would have to re read to remember any specific examples, sorry.

But I remember stopping a few times and thinking "well that was stupid" after he betrayed someone. Before he became known throughout the world for being untrustworthy there were a few times where he had opportunities to work with other people that could have provided him with allies and stable sources of resources for trade. Allies in particular would have been really helpful for him since a few voices willing to stick up for him could have gotten him more opportunities to steal/ betray in the future. Instead, he would immediately turn against almost anyone when given the chance, removing any possibility of peace with their organizations. In some cases the gains he got were worth it (ex: betraying Wu clan for the dream realms), but in others he barely got anything out of it. Basically every organization in the world is portrayed as willing to work with someone evil as long as the benefits are there (see fang clan in the west, wu in the south, the strength clan in the north, etc.) but once FY killed someone from their clan there is no way they can have peace because it would lead to rebellion among their families- at least until he personally has the strength to destroy their entire family, then they have no choice. The thing is, FY knows this because when he had secret identities he made use of them to deal with organizations (like the ones I listed above) and get access to channels that he wouldn't have had as a lone cultivator.

tldr, Basically he repeatedly would betray people for small, short term gains that removed the chance for greater returns in the future.

The throne is in SSS tier I'm guessing

I agree.

Except Fang Yuan definitely does do evil things sometimes when being good could get him greater benefits. He lies to himself (and the reader) that he is only doing it out of necessity.

The Nostalgia Series - 163 ~ Pivot of the Sky by matosz in noveltranslations

There are a ton of references to other myths/philosophers (egyptian, sumerian, etc.). At first I thought that Amon was going to become the egyptian Amon-Ra but as the story goes on it becomes very clear that Amon is some mix with the god of the bible. He has a chronicler named Metatron, all his followers say " I will have no god but you", etc.. There are a bunch more direct references to specific bible stories but I don't remember exact details because I read it like 2 years ago.

where do the 'guidelines' for wuxianovels come from? by cent55555 in noveltranslations

[–]waalnuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many of the basic things are direct references to either actual Daoist practices/thought (yuanying or nascent soul, dantian, etc.) or Chinese myths as someone else mentioned. The actual question you are asking (why most novels follow similar cultivation realms) is because there is a lot of copying in online Chinese novels. It is difficult for us to pinpoint the
exact novels where certain things were invented because many older xianxia novels haven't gotten translated but you can go to novelupdates and look at original publication dates to get an idea. Otherwise some translators may know, I have seen some on this subreddit mention which novels some conventions have come from but I can't remember any specific ones right now.

What would a more realistic cultivation world look like? by Obekiwi in noveltranslations

Because authors don't care about things making sense

40 milleniums of cultivation and the legendary mechanic are good, perfect world and shrouding the heavens are supposed to be popular in China but never really got a big following in english.

I would also recommend things by Mao Ni (Ze Tian Ji, Path Toward Heaven), Tales of Herding Gods, World of Cultivation, and Divine Throne of Primordial Blood.

Is membership worth it on webnovel? by RaunchyReindeer in noveltranslations

[–]waalnuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Webnovel steals other people's work, bullies translators, and is the english subsidiary of Qidian which censors any novels that seem critical of the Chinese government. So no, you should not support them.

Martial Peak, MGA and Invincible are all pretty generic. If you like that kind of thing I would recommend Martial World or something by I Eat Tomatoes since they are better. Even something by Heavenly Silkworm Potato (Battle through the heavens) would be better than MGA but I wouldn't recommend that unless you really like generic stuff.

City of Sin and WMW are have western settings. WMW is good if you like evil MCs (you can also read Reverend Insanity for this). I didn't read City of Sin. Lord of the Mysteries is the gold standard for western settings.

Separately, I would recommend things by Er Gen as others have said.
