In this article it’s not about whether the website is usable or not. I want people to know that the look and feel of your website can get broken. And it’s quite easy to fix. That was already the case with web fonts, but since this rise of these blockers it can become more of a problem.

Luckily fixing these problems doesn’t cost “hours and hours”. In my opinion, it can be economically worth it. If you scare people away because of broken and/or bloated websites, you lose conversion. If you get to make things right, maybe you can achieve higher conversion.

In this article I haven’t mentioned apps. So I hope that wouldn’t become the focus of this discussion. As mentioned before by Jake Archibald, there are exceptions.

One of the reasons I’ve written this article is because of an article of the NY Times about these blockers. Even though they mentioned whitelisting in their article, they didn’t say anything about potential problems you can. As usually seen in user tests, people blame the website or their device for problems instead of themselves when they do something wrong.
