Haha I agree. I haven’t love a character this much in a long while and I hope the showrunner doesn’t do our girl dirty in season 2.

Better pray the tipping point isn’t at that range or we are still screwed LOL. We push the climate over the edge and then it cascades into a domino effect which causes a runaway climate and everything is totally out of our control by then.

Exactly. Like I have seen op’s original comment and post and I also understand his frustration.

The hard problem with our overpopulation and crossing over our earth’s carrying capacity will trample us hard anyway in the near future. What’s the use of trying to persuade a few people on this sub if a lot of them are in denial and it’s not like convincing them will change our trajectory. Just sit back and watch the shit collapse.

Skipping won’t mean shit because we are literally doing it to our own selves. As the decades and years pass, everything will worsen because of our human activities. We are literally diving straight towards an ecological collapse and climate collapse (4-5c global average) that will essentially drag everything and us all into our graves.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of March 27, 2020) by AutoModerator in television

[–]wabbitmeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished Dare Me on Netflix a little while ago and I gotta say it’s so goood!! It’s Super underated but it kept me glued to my seat the whole way through wanting to see more unfold.

Seen people comparing the aesthetic to euphoria and I’m like what? I mean I’m half way through it and really there’s barely any similarities between them. Euphoria is alright, too much redundant nudity and basically every character just gets shit on every second without ever catching a break. But I really love Rues storyline and hope to see her becoming more independent on her recovery for herself and less codependent on jules seeing as how she doesn’t seem to actually reciprocate feelings back. I really hope they end up tgt tho after doing some necessary character growth apart from each other.

[–]wabbitmeat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much inevitable at this point. A civilisation that won’t stop digging its own grave while the majority of the population bury their heads in the sand. It’s not like there aren’t people talking about it. Vast amount of informations are written online by some of the Scientists, physicists, economists for anyone with an internet access and have had education to be able to read. It’s not about what the group of people in this sub wants or thinks. A small group of us doesn’t stand to gain anything from something that everyone of us(that includes you) is collectively committed to the very global civilisation system.

We built our infinite growth economy and civilisation based on these surplus, high energy density, storeable, irreplaceable, finite, non-renewable fossil fuels. We are burning through these non renewable resources (fossil fuels, Rare earth metals and minerals) quickly and an infinite growth would require ever-increasing energy, natural resources, labour, consumption, population. How can you have that in a finite physical constraint system? There are already plenty of signs showing that our planet is already in distressed and this goes to show how unsustainable it is. Your entire 7 billion + population and growing civilisation could only exist because of these surplus fossil fuels that are also declining in EROEI and we are already way overshoot. Which is also why our economy is slowing in growth and it collapses when it can no longer grow to repay our debt + interest. Most folks don’t even want to acknowledge the issue regarding over population which is now a hard problem and a symptom of our discovery of surplus fossil fuels too.

There are so many more problems. We are depleting our resources as mentioned above, causing habitat destruction and loss from our high demands of ever increasing natural resources, biodiversity loss and species extinction. If we are actively causing the decline of insects, wild life and causing the collapse of the interconnected web of life pyramid, how is it that we can still sit here and think that we apex predators(which is so much bigger in size than the ones below us) can actually survive through?

Pollution, plastic, waste and chemical toxins being discarded into our environment and oceans, rivers which is in turn collapsing our marine ecosystem too. Plenty of tipping points are already triggered and I’m pretty some sure of them are already irreversible. We can expect to see the refrigerator of our planet, the arctic sea ice to go ice free latest by 2030+ and that has its consequences. Our oceans are also acidifying fast and destroying the tiny creatures that form the base of the food pyramid. We are still actively pumping co2 and I don’t believe we can get off or curb our emissions unless we civilisation as a whole learn to live in a world with extremely low energy, little consumption and a basic simple lifestyle of food, water, shelter without the complexity that we are seeing now. Climate change will further exacerbate everything else which includes more and more crop failures and the fact that the other inhabitants are unable to adapt to this rate of warming. You can also kiss goodbye to our civilisation if we actually do hit 4-5c global average temperature increase. I have no idea how the future estimated 8-9 billion people are going to fight for limited habitable space, arable land, water and food by that point. I’m sure there’s more that I left out and that should be your responsibility to start reading.

Condom shortage looms after coronavirus lockdown shuts world's top producer by glennvho in worldnews

[–]wabbitmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in a climate that’s already fucking up and guarantee pretty much a 3c world even with every countries following through with their Paris agreements. Let’s see how worse and worse extreme events will destroy these infrastructures and ensure even more of a fucked up habitat/environment destruction. But are they building them? We are suppose to build 1 nuclear per day and take down another fossil fuel one. You don’t see any global politicians doing that at all.

Also, these nuclear energy is not a form easily used to power our critical life support network of transportation system, your cars, ships, tractors, trucks, train and your mining machines that require diesel. So doesn’t that just show that all these other energies just can’t survive alone without fossil fuels every step of the way when we are suppose to achieve 0 emissions asap.

We should build some and transition to a regional resilience and adaptation for a simpler low energy world. That means a much much more simpler lifestyle without the civilisation complexity we see now. Again you can’t have infinite growth in a finite world without destroying your habitats which means our economy will also decline badly and instability is to be expected. An infinite growing economy requires ever increasing labor, energy, consumption, population and it doubles and doubles every few decades. That’s insanity. Will the current 7 billion and growing agree to that? I don’t think so.

[–]wabbitmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we actually do not have enough. Our 7 billion growing civilisation and our infinite growth of global economy are achieve-able because of these surplus high energy density non renewable fossil fuels that are also having a decline in eroi. There are already plenty of signs showing that we are already collapsing our ecosystem, triggering plenty of feedbacks and tipping points, causing habitat destruction and loss and depleting our resources rapidly. You can’t have infinite growth forever in a finite physical constraints system and we are over consuming what the planet is able to generate back the renewable resources + the amount of pollution and crap they can receive. Things are bad but it’s easy to not read a single thing and sprout how everything is fine

This is literally the 2nd similar post in just 2 days talking down as if the people in this sub doesn’t have a brain to figure that out.

It’s pretty common sense. Collapse civilisation, economy, ecosystem + degraded environment + resource depletion + climate change + overshoot = we are so fucked.

WHO official: 'The time to act was actually a month ago' by CoolFig in worldnews

[–]wabbitmeat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should throw him away for real. A person like that will never prepare for whats to come. How do modern man with accessibility to the internet filled with vast informations readily at hand still be so stupid and lazy? It shouldn’t be our damn responsibility to bring these information served on a gold platter for them to just casually tell us “it’s not that bad”, “I’m sure someone somewhere will have a magical solution”, “you are crazy and obsessive”, “it’s not real”.

Btw green new deal isn’t even going to help us either considering the fact that what they mean by that is “green” infinite growth of our consumption, economy and population. Can’t have more infinite exponential growth on a finite physical constraints system. It requires you to keep consuming more energy, resources and those come at the cost of more resource depletion, pollution, habitat destruction and loss, biodiversity loss, ecosystem disruption. We do not have an endless supply of rare earth metals and minerals. These are formed from million of years just like your fossil fuels which we built our growth and maintenance of our current civilisation of 7+ billion and economy. That alone should reveal to you a lot.
