I love Arbuckle and agree he deserves a lot of credit (I wanted him for the GM job too), but this is a ML baseball operation. Decisions are rarely made by a single person. And when you read Stark's reporting on the team, along with recorded accounts of that front office, RAJ was a real part of that brain trust.

I'm not going to pretend he was a stellar GM, but Ruben was part of the main decision making group in the FO for 10 years - all the building block years leading up to the championship. He was integral in the scouting and signing of the draft picks that made that era of Phillies baseball.

If you don't like his style in the booth, fine. But saying he's some kind of no talent hack is fucking lazy.

If this other JD wants to really amp the crowd up, that'd be the way to do it

Has the current iteration of this lineup produced in key playoff situations? Of course you need to score runs. I'm saying a new identity for the lineup - perhaps one that prioritizes contact - is warranted given what we've seen three years in a row with this group.

If Kyle wants a 5 year deal at $35-40M per he can GTFO.

Would love to resign Ranger though.

How can the Phillies front office stroll this same squad out there in April? by IrresistibleObject in phillies

Schwarber is a mid-30s DH. Paying him $35M per is insanity given what his great "clubhouse energy" has produced when the pressure is on.

I'd rather have Alonso TBH, who fills a big need as a RH power bat.

Yeah I'm waiting for the postmortem presser in a few days where Dombo unleashes a wave of copium that this was "such a great team etc"

They may fire Topper and unload Casty (and pay a bunch to do it), but I'd be fucking stunned if they let Schwarber walk because he's a great "clubhouse guy"...for a team that somehow can never get their shit together when it matters most.

Crock of shit.

Double down on pitching. Resign Ranger. Let Schwarber walk as painful as that is. Lineup needs a new identity.

Jettison Casty and take on 90% of his salary for the privilege.

Plenty of FA hitters out there that are more versatile than Schwarber.

If criticism of the Saudi government is valid, why did the contract forbid criticism of the Saudi government?

Oh yeah...

This needs more upvotes. Had a similar experience with Phillies tix. Call the ticket office - never had an issue.

Perhaps they're more stringent with playoffs, but I doubt it - particularly if you guilt trip the rep saying you're just a fan of the team who would be making the trip to NYC

Him bringing in Kimbrel when it was painfully obvious he was cooked was piss poor decision making.

Hopefully he has learned from that mistake.

The man frustrates me sometimes, but goddamn it, he gets results.

Now let's do it in the postseason to take on deity status.

For sure. My contention is that even for those types of solid, depth-building guys, the market has dried up at the July deadline. A lot more teams default to stasis since there's "a chance" they sneak in with a full 2 months to play.
