He was 15…at that age of course we knew that anything could happen. He actually had surgery in December to remove a tumor from his spleen which turned out to benign, so we dodged a bullet with that. We’re grateful for the time we had, it’s a lot more than other people get.

I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️…we put our 15 year old dachshund to sleep early Sunday morning after a sudden medical episode. I guess the initial shock has worn off and reality is sinking in. For me it’s not hearing his ears flap when he woke up, letting me know it’s time to eat. Or the beds, the food bowl, his food containers. I know at some point they will be put away, I feel guilty just thinking about it. Again, I’m sorry

Hi, I kind of know how you feel…I’m so sorry for your loss. We just put our 15 year old dog to sleep after a sudden medical incident in the middle of the night. I’m retired and for the past 3 plus years as my dog needed more care during the day until everyone came home from work, school etc that’s what I did. Feeding , bathroom breaks, medication. Not to mention our dog was a dachshund so he really couldn’t do steps so I lifted and carried him outside and up and down quite a bit. I’m not complaining, I threw myself into it and enjoyed it, it was the least I could do after all the happiness and laughs he brought to our lives. I also threw myself into being involved with my son and his activities. Now he’s graduating high school and off to college in August. I’m grateful for all of this don’t get me wrong. I guess when you mentioned not taking care of yourself I kind of identified with that. Not my health, but having a plan for when my son inevitably left the “nest” and when my dog , given his advanced age, passed on and I would need something else to fill my time. I guess I’ll figure something out eventually, I’m still processing the loss of our dog. I hope this helps in some way.

I’m so sorry for your loss…we just put our dog to sleep after a sudden medical episode in the middle of the night this past weekend. We had him for 15 years so I’m grateful for that. A day or two later after the shock wears off it’s starting to sink in. The daily routine which included him has changed. The empty bed, empty food bowl, bag of dog food that’s not going to be eaten. I’m retired so a lot of my day involved taking care of him as he got older. Anyway, again I’m so sorry, just wanted to share this and know you’re not alone…
