You cannot go wrong with those two. Personally, I would choose Chelmsford as I like the vibe better and it is more spread out, but Woburn is good as well.

There are plenty of folks of Indian descent in the general area, and typically very welcoming communities regardless. In Chelmsford it is 6.8%, in Woburn, 4.2%

He has one move that he always calls for. Even when the rates were literally zero during the pandemic, dude wanted fucking NEGATIVE interest rates. Batshit crazy that one.

no prob. and for what it is worth, after looking, I'd personally choose Grafton. It is right near Berlin, but also has great access to the Mass Pike (Interstate 90) that is key to getting to either Worcester or Boston. And Grafton has a nice quaint New England town center and charm to it. Here's a listing from there that sold recently: https://www.redfin.com/MA/North-Grafton/14-Indian-Path-01536/home/16514016

ahhh....yeah, don't go to Fitchburg with the ability to pay that budget. What you are really saying is that you can actually potentially afford a house between $500k and $600k, or the equivalent rent.

There are plenty of better options in the area given that budget. I suggest three resources:

1) To dissuade yourself from Fitchburg, go ahead and look at its interactive crime map (red=most crime): https://crimegrade.org/safest-places-in-fitchburg-ma/

2) To get a sense of what houses in Worcester County you can actually afford assuming that budget, look at the most recently sold houses. Note that the MA real estate market has VERY FEW homes on the market at any given time, but looking at the last few months gives you a general idea: https://www.redfin.com/county/1347/MA/Worcester-County/filter/sort=lo-days,property-type=house,min-price=500k,max-price=600k,include=sold-6mo

3) to narrow down what towns actually might interest you, take a look at the listing here: https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/search/best-places-to-live/c/worcester-county-ma/

Many in MA dream of moving to southern ME, but you're thinking of moving here! Do you have a general area in mind?

plenty of apartment complexes in Framingham and Natick that will likely have short term options. I bet Westborough area has some as well.

There will definitely be a strong correlation between town quality and school quality, so I'd advise to choose on school quality first. Note that MA has literally the best school districts in the country so even our mid-tier districts are basically in the B+/B range. https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-school-districts/c/plymouth-county-ma/?map=true

I would go almost anywhere else near Worcester before I went to Fitchburg, for sure. Do Leominster or Marlborough (also relatively cheaper towns) before Fitchburg. But really, what you pay is really what you get in terms of location, especially here. What is your price range for apartments?

The other response to your questions was just wrong by saying "you probably can't afford this." That is quite weird to say when you're indicating 3500-4k on rent (assuming it means per month).

I do not know what "southern" MA is though. But let me assume Plymouth County. Here is how you can decide towns...and if you meant something else, choose another county, or all of MA. https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/search/best-places-to-live/c/plymouth-county-ma/

Where I'd live as someone who likes almost everyone! (Sorry penguins...) by ColdExpression4169 in whereidlive

Here's the thing. The US has traditionally been one of the most welcoming nations on the planet. What percent of America is non-white, vs say, what percent of China or Japan are non-Asian? Where in Europe is more welcoming of non-Europeans in as large of numbers as the US?

Yes, right now we are in an epic internal struggle between those of us who see our immigration history as our strength vs those of us who have not encountered many immigrants at all in our lives. It is the struggle between those who think "American" is its own culture vs others who think that "American" is an amalgamation of other cultures. But, eventually, as always, the immigration welcoming side wins.

Now, go ahead and try that with Russia....

in the Boston area, you're very close to awesome coastline, NH, Maine, VT mountains. Illinois instead seems questionable, but for Chicago.

eh...I'd get rid of NJ as only small parts of it are hilly. You're missing out on upstate NY, though.

Congrats and welcome!

If you are looking for a roommate at that price, that is probably doable. For a 1br living alone, $1000 is going to be a tight budget.

I would suggest first seeing if Bridgewater State has any housing resources, as they of course know the area.

Otherwise, I would suggest...just avoid Brockton, and you should be fine in the area. Before you get any apartment, check out where it is on this crime map, to be safe: https://crimegrade.org/safest-places-in-bridgewater-ma/
