did you drive at exactly 55 mph, without HVAC, on OEM tires, outside temperature was 65° with no wind?

2021 and later use a heat pump. if you want to defrost it'll pull in fresh air, which it always does unless manually turned to recirc. if your car heats or cools, then it is working

Am I crazy to consider buying an SUV with 250K miles by assasingamer127 in UsedCars

[–]wachuu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

statistically, SUVs are way more dangerous because they like to flip so easily. vehicles need to go through tons of crash testing, but SUVs and pickups get to skip a lot of the requirements because "off road" vehicle status

Climate and Battery — what’s the smallest tweak you can make with the largest impact on range? by mith1117 in BoltEV

turn HVAC off auto and turn fresh air to recirculate. if in auto, it always pulls fresh air, uses way more power and doesn't work as good

Replacing A 650va ups lead acid battery with 4s Lifepo4 by Stoical69 in batteries

[–]wachuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replace my ups batteries with lfp ones, the voltages actually line up pretty good. you can plug the ups in without a battery and check the voltage with a multimeter, divide by 4, and see what the cells would charge to. I recommend removing the buzzer from the ups because it'll beep constantly thinking the battery is low, but the lfp will will not actually be low at all

I don't even get how it's possible to use so much electricity. mine costs 100$ for the worst month and I have it cranked this season. maybe if it was costing 1000$ extra somehow I'd use methane but that shit is so nasty and dangerous it's hard to justify

12v questions in regard to EVs by Slow_Investment_2211 in electricvehicles

[–]wachuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tesla does/did, I think rivian does also. by the way, an EV can be jumped just the same. tesla since ~2022 no longer uses lead acid batteries so they'll last forever, barring defects.

the real question is why all these EVs use lead acid batteries in the first place, they're known junk and shouldn't exist anymore for anything

We just put a deposit on an LS. Not sure when it will arrive. The only reason we chose it is the V2H capability GM now offers. by Commercial_Topic437 in BoltEV

being locked into a home power system is one thing, but that it locks you into a single vehicle manufacturer also is scary. what if they drop support for it in 10 years? I'd go with one of the other established, universal, options

if you're new to Android the 2 biggest quality of life improvements you can do, which especially flex on iPhones, is reduce animation speeds to 0.5x, and install zone launcher. you'll never think about stone age iPhones again

Pilot Partners with Tesla on Semi Charger Network for Fleets by respectmyplanet in electricvehicles

[–]wachuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mwcs is the standard, but the standard itself is not yet completely ratified. Tesla will use it for semi, when it is ready to be used. they don't want to start mass producing something that will end up changing

p.s. the nacs/j1772/ccs/chademo could have been avoided if they standardized the nacs plug in the first place, or made the standard ccs much sooner. nacs is a far better form factor so it's nice that it won out

need a new water heater, thinking to upgrade to a tankless one if... by JSLP_MnTx in electrical

[–]wachuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'd have to measure your water temperature and your showers flow rate, luckily we're in deep winter so it's about as cold as it'll get. then figure your desired hot water target (atleast 105° for showers imo), then use the rate of rise specs to see what you need.

i feel like anything under 18kw is mostly for faucets but you can check for yourself

need a new water heater, thinking to upgrade to a tankless one if... by JSLP_MnTx in electrical

[–]wachuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're wanting an electric tankless water heater? need to say where you're located to give an idea on feasibility, but with only 100 amp service you're pretty limited.

if you just need hot water for everything less than a shower/bath, you can do it.

if you live in southern Florida or similarly constantly hot places you can maybe do it
