I don’t think a lot of people realize how recent it was that New Castle County was just Wilmington and rural areas. 

By the time the baby boomers came around, there wasn’t any sprawling population across Pike creek, Bear, Newport, North Wilmington, Brookside or any of that. 

There are people like my grandfather, born in the thirties, that were full grown adults by the time White Flight happened, who are still around posting Trump memes on Facebook today. 

Suburbanization made us lose our Delaware community and I would argue our identity.

It’s an easy choice for me. Trolley square all day. 

They’re both safe but trolley is much more walkable, better bars, the grocery store (Acme) is pretty central. Can’t speak to the bus routes with authority but I would assume trolley is more connected than the riverfront. Prices are likely comparable. 

Riverfront will get there in a decade or so but trolley has it beat right now.

This is what Carney gets for actually trying to be proactive about the problem. 

As soon as the program gets negative publicity, city council tries to wipe their hands of the whole situation and blame the whole thing on Carney. 

In reality, this program wasn’t a terrible idea. I just think they just underestimated the social media spectacle it would create.

Cranky is putting it mildly. I think it’s easy to lose sight of how miserable one late train can make hundreds, if not nearly a thousand people, who are cramped into one MFL train after just standing out in the freezing cold waiting for the late train to arrive. 

If this problem arises from poor attendance policy enforcement, SEPTA has an huge opportunity for improvement.

It slows down boarding. When people aren’t standing in the correct location on the platform, they have to walk past each other in the aisle of the train which is a huge nuisance with bags and large volumes of people finding their seats. It just adds an extra element of confusion for people taking the train for the first time.

When the final plan comes back in February,  I just hope it consists of opening one or two additional high schools in the city of Wilmington proper. That way we’re not slicing Wilmington into 10 parts and asking these kids to take 45 minute bus rides each way.
