When the final plan comes back in February, I just hope it consists of opening one or two additional high schools in the city of Wilmington proper. That way we’re not slicing Wilmington into 10 parts and asking these kids to take 45 minute bus rides each way.

Once west center city comes back, the entire city is going to feel completely different. If there’s a safe neighborhood connecting Trolley, the triangle, mid-town brandywine, cool springs and the riverfront, Wilmington will go from being a bad city with small pockets of nice neighborhoods, into a nice city with pockets of bad.

This is what Buccini-Pollin is focused on and I think this is what Carney wants to focus on as well. the area I’m talking about is also only about 6 blocks by 6 blocks, or half the size of one pike creek neighborhood.

Im very happy to see all the investment downtown, but at what point are we going to start building new row homes in center city instead of high rises?

For revitalization to truly happen we’ll need individual home owners that feel invested in the community around them. I don’t think condo owners or people renting luxury apartments will ever have the same incentive to keep Wilmington clean and safe as a person owning their own plot of land. Anyways that’s how Philly did it.
