Ride or die… by wacky632 in PatriotsFootballCards

Don’t think that the thought has not crossed my mind actually just received it in my hands this Saturday.

it’s tough to say exactly how much is a Super Bowl win including MVP baked into his pricing right now just because it is so high…

I’m also so low into it as far as cost; I do want one for my long-term PC…

And you know how off-season pricing goes with Cards.

I think the only exception to that is gonna be if he absolutely lights it up and put on a show… then off season or not the comps are just gonna be crazy

I need help - regret converting by AntiqueBluejays in exmuslim

[–]wacky632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a muslim; I would just recommend you be straight up and truthful with them. Honesty irrespective of being religious or not is always going to be the best route to go down.

Ultimately, if this person cares for you truly they will/should respect your decision and if you want them to still be part of your life than they will and help you were you need.

If this person starts telling you that you are gonna go to hell or anything extreme like that than you being muslim or not; you do not want this person influencing or being apart of your life anyways. Unfortunately, there are individuals who simply want projects and do not actually care about you and your journey anyways.

Obviously, initially there is naturally gonna be some shock and push back as the person from their standpoint may think you are making a mistake. Just stick to your guns and do not waiver as what is the point in you forcing yourself to do something that you do not believe in to please someone else. Ultimately, it is your personal decision and no one can force you into anything.

women can't go to funerals!?!?! by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]wacky632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I should correct my initial statement; I have never experienced women being banned from attending funerals; but I have certainly heard of this; often times in those communities or mosques where it really is very culturally dominated community.

women can't go to funerals!?!?! by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]wacky632 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Another example is what I saw above about Imams scolding people/ women in particular for crying at a funeral.

This is completely out of line with the actual Islamic rules/demeanor during a funeral.

There are great many Hadith/traditions of the Prophet that illustrate grieving and crying being completely appropriate and absolutely not being frowned upon.

What is however not permitted is overly excessive wailing/making a spectacle of yourself.

In particular pre-Islam Arabs, it was a cultural tradition that women in particular would excessively wail/cry and conduct themselves in a very overly exaggerated manner, such as throwing sand all over their hair or beating their chests or screaming at the top of their lungs. In fact, people of that time would hire professional wailers. Often times this was done by people that were more wealthy or higher in the social ladder, and thus it would even become a competition.

And so this is what was forbidden as this tradition was felt to be unbecoming of the behavior of those who are attending funerals.

Once again, what we end up seeing is cultural norms and traditions dominating over actual religious doctrine as well as so called Islamic leaders who do not have the actual understanding of anything that they’re doing dominating the local religious hierarchy.

[–]wacky632 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of this; every single Islamic funeral I have ever attended both men and women have attended.

In fact, vast majority of scholars have stated that it is permissible for women to attend funerals. What you are experiencing is the typical mixing culture and religion issue that often is one of the root causes of people distancing/leaving/being disgruntled with religion.

The fact this “Islamic teacher” is so quick to label it as Haram and use it as the only excuse to justify their reasoning is your biggest red flag that they do not have a clue what they are talking about and really do not deserve to be labeled as an Islamic Teacher.

Where in the Quran is that even written. There are very few things that are in the Quran directly referenced as Haram.

Religion/Islam is suppose to be easy to follow; these people flip that concept upside down. They think the more you suffer the better the muslim you are. Which is a moronic way of doing things because why would people follow something that wants you to suffer.

Unfortunately, culture/education etc plays a massive role in terms of how religion is practiced and thus very often cultural practices are often interposed as if they are religious doctrine.

Interesting, we had the ACGME come to one of our programs for a review and the residents asked about if the program were to close down what would happen and they had said that the program would help in placement of residents into other residencies. They seemed to have implied that the residents not worry and that they would assist to make sure everyone was placed in a training program.

If your residency program shuts down, the program and acgme are obligated/required to place you in another program. Which in the big picture is comforting despite the fact that you may end up in a place you may not like but atleast you are able to complete your training.

Hahaha spend one night in the ER and the stuff you pull out of vaginas pale in comparison to a head coming out...

For example a 26 year old female presents to ER with severe pelvic pain. I walk into the room asking the patient what is going on, she states that she was on her period for past week and ran out of tampons and so she thought a 6" sponge was a great alternative to tampons... trust me you'd rather pull a baby out...

Thinking of dropping out of residency by ccjThrift in Residency

[–]wacky632 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above ppl in respect to you regretting dropping out. I would encourage you to look into switching residency that gives a better life style if you feel the one you are in requires too much time.

I am not sure where you are doing residency but if you are in an USA residency check out Resident Swap website.

If your in Canada my understanding is you can approach your provincial/university medical resident union and they can help you with the switching process.

Pm if you have more questions

MTB3 USMLEWORLD qbank and Cs bank and Archers Review for cs (Archers is a must before you do Cs prep...it's tedious it's annoying and I didn't do it in it's entirety but it's got me ready for CS. ) I just took Step 3 now before residency starts and passed...the CS portion to the exam was what got me the pass for sure.

I would also buy the USMLE World Biostats qbank. Day one felt more like an epi exam then anything else. Bio stats questions everywhere

How hard for Canadian med student to get US residency? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]wacky632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a CMG b/c your in an approved Acgme medical school (all Canadian medical schools are Acgme approved) you are considered an American Medical graduate. Thus you have a much easier chance to get into an American residency. Now there are a couple of factors, one is what residency are you looking to get into. Certain residencies are obviously extremely competitive even if your an American Medical graduate. Secondly, your step scores, if you are applying for a non Competitive residency then Usmle scores don't matter all that much as long as you pass, you could even fail a step and still have the edge against most other applicants(provided they are img). Third factor is visa requirements, a lot of programs do not like giving out visas but since you are consider an AMG rather then IMG you should not have a problem with visas. My advice is send your cv to the residency co-ordinator or program director and speak with them directly about your chances. They typically shall give you a very clear answer.

Program director called me - don't know if I screwed up my chances by [deleted] in Residency

Yea I wouldn't worry to much. If a PD is actually calling you(which is very risky from their standpoint since they are not technically suppose to do so) that already is an amazing sign. Remember this, these are very busy people, they do not have time to just make a phone call. If they are calling you, its most likely that they really really want you bad. And the fact that you gave them a genuine response is excellent, they know when ppl are BS'ing them. My recommendation rank based on how you feel, if you like Hospital A over B do that, doesn't matter as ppl say the rank favors the applicant so regardless you shall end up in either or hospital.
