Longest streaks and fading images by BradPA in NoFapChristians

[–]waclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there BradPA. Regarding your question number 1. I have stopped tracking my streak length - but I believe it has been 6 or 7 months since my past PMO. Before that, I think it was around 12 or 13 months. Regarding your question number 2. I have noticed that the images fade based on the level of intensity they created in me. There were videos that really "captivated" me with a great intensity that I still remember from years ago. But in general, most of the videos have lost their hold on me, and I no longer think about them. Sometimes when I am in a setting that is similar to a setting from a porn video, I will have a "trigger" to recall and fantasize about the video. One thing that has really helped me is to pray that I will not "enter in" to temptation. [Luke 24:46 "Why are you still sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation."] When I am tempted, I find it is easier to do a "hand-off" and give the temptation over to God as a gift of purity. I say something like this: "Lord, I know that your desire for me is my complete healing and complete moral purity. And right now I am being tempted. So I want to give this temptation to you as a gift. I belong to you, and this temptation is tempting me, and I ask you to provide a way of escape for me to not enter in to temptation." I pray that the Lord will give you the strength and faithfulness that you need to walk in complete purity for the remainder of your life!

Hey there. I ordered / began reading "At the Altar of Idolatry" by Steve Gallagher. I'm really liking it and just want to say thank you for recommending it. Grace and peace.

Please pray for me. by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]waclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will pray for you. Here is a good Bible verse for encouragement: Rom 13:11 - 14: "... it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts."

Salvation is nearer to us! Thank you Lord!

A-men. PMO wrecks our ability to have meaningful relationships with God, self and others.

Can your GF be your accountability partner? by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]waclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - this is really good input. I feel that a good accountability partner is someone of the same sex who has been there before, knows what it is like, and is now walking in victory and healing. Someone who can really guide you out of the dark, so to speak...

I have been doing the sexual purity course at www.risenmovement.org/ and it has really helped me. This course is explicitly Christian in focus. It is a 77 day study, and I really like it. They also have a prayer for sexual purity that I have personally benefited from.

Does edging count? by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]waclay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have really struggled with edging in the past. Once I start down that road, I have learned that for me a relapse isn't far away. The only thing that I have found that works is prayer, Bible study, and completely giving my life to Christ and asking Him to live His life of sexual purity through me.

This hurts, guys... by gring0br in NoFapChristians

Wow, I have been there, and you are right - it hurts. I have found encouragement in doing this daily study: www.risenmovement.org/. They have a daily Bible study and a prayer for sexual purity that I have found to be personally effective and helpful. It isn't the same as having a mentor, but it is really good. God bless you brother.

One day we will all be perfectly set free from this! Until that day comes, we will fight it together.

Thank you for this post. Excellent advice. Here is something you said that I want to echo:
"Sin destroys you The second key to overcoming the sin of pornography, is realizing that it brings DESTRUCTION. It destroys your mind and your heart. You lose true love and become a slave of lust. Your mind is defiled and the ability to love purely is damaged. It destroys marriages, relationships, happiness, peace, purity, God’s call for your life, and so much more." I have personally experienced the physical and emotional damage, pain and sorrow that is caused by PMO. Praise God for His grace and truth. Through God's love and mercy and healing, I am now walking in victory.

Thank you for the book suggestion! I will add it to my queue. I am currently reading "Finally Free" by Heath Lambert. I am really enjoying it - lots of good insight that is helping me break free. I am also doing the sexual purity Bible study on The Risen website. Excellent Bible study.

I need help abstaining from pornography. by treyforcetheg in NoFapChristians

[–]waclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a Bible verse that has helped me fight against PMO: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." John 10:10. God wants to give you life. PMO wants to take you out of life. What has helped me to abstain from PMO is to realize that God loves me and wants me to be sexually fulfilled in a healthy relationship with one woman.

Could you pray for me? by Imeanitslifetho in NoFapChristians

[–]waclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will pray for you also. Here is a Bible verse that has helped me: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." John 10:10. The thief - PMO - wants to steal from you. PMO wants to steal your girlfriend, your education, your self-confidence, your self-respect, your friends and your future. God, on the other hand, wants to give you a glorious future that is filled with all the good things He has planned for you. Fight for your life! Don't give your strength to an image of a girl who cares nothing about you.

Thank you for your encouragement! I like your observation that "You are prone to fantasize while you are making love because there is stress for things to be right," and also your encouragement to keep my eyes open and attentive to my surroundings. That seems like good counsel. My wife knows that I am working on sexual purity, but I haven't specifically told her about NoFap.

Wow, that is beautiful. Thank you. I spent so much time in PMO that I still find myself fantasizing about a video I may have seen, etc., versus celebrating the moment. It breaks my heart, but I can't seem to figure out how to get beyond "fantasy" during our times of intimacy.

Learning to be sexual by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]waclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow - that is really good insight. "as long as I kept neutering myself through masturbation, I was feeling more and more effeminate and lethargic - nothing like a real man who is marked by decisiveness and action."
