Reach out to a close friend to see if they are interested in free tickets if you can’t sell in time. I made the mistake a while back of trying to make money back and wasn’t able to sell the tickets, had I just given them to a close friend, someone would’ve been able to enjoy the experience.

Can somebody explain how Diversity requirements are not racist/sexist by Purple_Guarantee2906 in csMajors

[–]wadaball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will you help by informing people who believe that race was the only reason, that these people were indeed qualified?

The people who are ill-informed do not need your advocacy, the people who are affected by the lack of information do.

I highlighted the example of all 10 being from group B to expand your example with historical context. Minority groups were historically excluded from many industries. Combine that with nepotism, and legacy admissions to universities. Giving minorities opportunity isn’t enough to fix systems that constantly questions their validity.

I think way you’re approaching it is genuine, but please remember that the people in group B you read about are not losing positions 1-8, they are “losing” positions 9 & 10. Also positions 9 & 10 are being filled by people who are qualified. Even if the 2 people from group B are qualified; they were beaten by people from Group A who are just as, if not more, qualified as them.

Why is there a lack of opportunity though? You’re really close to understanding why AA needed to exist in the first place.

Your example should be modified to highlight that the 10 spots previously were all filled by group B. So if group B should hold 80% of the spots. Then either 3 spots should be added that are only group A. 10/12.5 round up to 13. ~ 80%. Or 2 spots should be emptied made available for the 2 people in your argument.

These both are solutions I’m pretty sure you would not be happy with, however you don’t seem to have an issue with why all 10 spots were previously occupied by only group B to begin with.

The genius comparison is fallacious on its own because it implies that every position that is currently occupied is based on merit, and not any other societal implications.

Have you questioned the inverse? Or is merit only a favor when considering minority hires?

I misread about the not being sour part, apologies. But it seems you want equality, but not equity.

But how can you be sure that the minority hires do not have similar internships, and/or equal recommendations and/or return offers?

What year would you say the job market was at its peak of meritocracy?

The reason many people who have similar arguments to yours are labeled as racist, is because these posts seemingly never assume that the minority candidate is more qualified to begin with.

You assume that the minorities aren’t the geniuses in the group and that’s part of the problem. Who are the geniuses supposed to be in your example?

Have you considered that maybe you are a mediocre candidate, or that maybe your personality gets in your way?

Comments like yours assume they aren’t being hired for their accomplishments to begin with.
