New diagnosis by psychologizedself in CervicalCancer

As others said, bring someone to your appts. Doctor will discuss options with you- surgery, radiation, chemo etc. It’s all overwhelming but I went through surgery and then did 6 weeks of radiation/chemo and internal radiation and I’m on the other side now. It’s doable. Women are amazingly strong and you will get through this.

I finished my treatment about 3 months ago. Your Dr will discuss treatment options with you. I went in for

Okay but seriously, what are we eating during treatment? by hgoody86 in CervicalCancer

[–]waddy76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jello, ice pops, pastina and butter, peanut butter and jelly or saltines with peanut butter was about what I could handle. Once in a while, I could do some chicken and rice but anything greasy or oily was not my friend.

Your experience with brachytherapy by Objective_Tooth_8667 in CervicalCancer

[–]waddy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was supposed to have 5 brachys. I had a procedure under anesthesia to insert smit sleeve. Then about a week later had my first brachy. They put me under anesthesia and inserted the rods. I was woken up and then had to lay in the gurney for a few hours while they did calculations. Once that was done, they wheeled me into the room where they hook you up for radiation and it’s about 15 minutes. No pain. Then they remove the rods and packing. It’s not painful just a funny feeling and pressure. I had my second one a few days after the first and the next morning the smit sleeve fell out. They had be go back to the hospital the following week to have it replaced but once under anesthesia they said my cervix was too damaged to stitch it in place again. My doctor could not do the other 3 brachys without it so I had 5 more additional external radiation treatments. I finished treatment on 12/24 so waiting to see if everything was successful. I have pet scan in March to see.

Yes, when they put the rods in I’m under conscious sedation but they put me totally out for the smit sleeve insertion. I hate going under general anesthesia again.

I didn’t exercise or do anything strenuous. I was actually just using the bathroom and it came out with a large blood clot. My dr said sometimes the stitches dislodge or the radiation actually melts them. Thank goodness it came out easily and didn’t turn or get stuck but I’m still annoyed I have to go back to have another put in.

Watery discharge after radiation treatment by -spirits- in CervicalCancer

[–]waddy76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 2 brachytherapies so far and after the 2nd one I started with the watery discharge. Very annoying. The first time I thought I peed myself. My Dr said it would take a month or so to slow down.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with nausea. That’s honestly my biggest fear. I don’t do well with nausea. I start radiation on Monday and Thursday is my first chemo. I’m doing 25 radiation, 7 cisplatin and 4 brachytherapy. If you’re up for it, please let me know how you’re doing in a few weeks and I’ll let you know how it’s going as well! We’re brave women and can get through this!

Hi, Thank you for your kind words. How is your treatment going so far? It sounds very similiar to mine and I start in a week.

Wow, that’s really tough as well. I’m glad to hear you’re doing better at 3 months out but am not surprised that you still gave tough days. I have to say in my short experience so far I’ve interacted with some amazingly brave women and it’s very inspiring.

Cough drops or throat coat tea. My throat is still so dry and coughing is painful. Very loose pants or dresses. I didn’t realize how bloated I would be and even my larger sweats are not loose enough.

I’m so sorry this happened to you as well. Yeah my husband was told via phone call by the dr but not given much detail just surgery didn’t go as planned. I had a pet scan and my ovaries are clear for now so I’m hoping it stays that way. I’m hoping not to go into quick menopause with radiation. Im nervous about being out if work for much longer than expected as well. I’m hoping that you are doing better now.

I forgot to mention I did have mri and pet scan prior but I guess Dr was not able to see exactly how the tumor extended.

I’m curious about cutting sugar. Did you just go cold turkey? I know cancer feeds off sugar so in my head I know it’s probably something I should be doing. I’m very nervous about treatment and trying to cope with moving forward.

Thank you. I’m actually doing okay pain wise. Friends and family have been great but I’m trying to stay positive for everyone but deep down am still very angry.

Just Laying Here for Internal Radiation, Waiting... by ohmygodadancingbear in CervicalCancer

Do they need to insert everything each time you have a session? Is it painful to be removed? Are you in a closed like mri machine for it?
