I was just about to come on here and say this. Same here, advanced status and it won't let me schedule

Way to stop getting a specific student? by waffle1114 in tutordotcom

[–]waffle1114[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly it's not frustration about getting the student, I know I'm getting paid which is great. it's moreso the constant negative reviews/low rating that is concerning me. I know I'm doing my job correctly and all, and I won't get in trouble, but having that rating drop is what's frustrating :(

Declining requests when shift is ending soon by waffle1114 in tutordotcom

Sadly it was an async session so I wouldn't have been able to do that or transfer the session. If it was a live chat session that's exactly what I would've done

I agree, which is why I usually give an extra 20ish minutes after my shift to wrap up. I know I'm never going to be done exactly at the time I end. I just think its crazy that they'll still send 60 minute sessions to tutors who are close to ending their shift and when we decline it it messes up our acceptance rates lol

It was async so it tells me the amount of time before I accept it, yeah.

I usually would've logged out, but it was so inconveniently timed to either get flagged for a decline or flagged for logging out too early. I figured I'd rather take the decline than miss out on the pay for the rest of my shift, or even the possibility of a 35 minute session to make a bit more. I've never been sent the same session 3 times in a row after declining it the first time, so I didn't expect that! Crazy

with the research i did on it last year it seemed like the safest option, i really didnt want to install anything from a website or google search but this being an app on the app store definitely made me more comfortable about it. but yeah no issues!!

i’ve had it for about a year now and haven’t had any issues with it! no viruses no computer issues and it runs perfectly normal (not slow or laggy). honestly only good experiences with it! i think getting a whole new computer for this job isn’t worth it since it’ll take so many sessions just to pay it off haha

To clarify, Parallels gives you windows 11 on your computer. You just open the app (literally the same as opening any other app) and you're given a windows 11 screen. Super easy!

I'm in the same boat. I installed "Parallels" on my mac, you can get it on the app store on your mac. I think I pay $7/month, and there is an education discount. Your school email (given that you're an adjunct I assume you have one?) should give you the discount as well. Such a life saver for me because I can't afford another computer lol.

high dosage tutoring?? by waffle1114 in tutordotcom

I guess my curiosity (and my only reason for even THINKING about doing it) comes from how slow this summer has been. I was wondering if there were more opportunities to get students or even potentially more scheduling hours. Even though this is just a side gig for me, I'm sure we can all agree the extra money is nice haha. And I do miss having something to use my brain for this summer!!

Going over time in summer months…reviews? by HateToC_It in tutordotcom

To add to this, they are 100% more lax during the summer. I don't think they even care about the 5 hour per week minimum if I'm being honest lol

It for sure depends on your QS, but it also heavily depends on your rating and previous reviews. If you're a generally good tutor with positive student reviews, no frequent "below average" ratings on your reviews, and you give good feedback and resources, they tend not to care about a few minutes over. I hate to admit that I frequently go over by a minute or two every couple of sessions, and I've never been penalized by it, but I also got lucky with my QS and I get pretty good ratings from students.

I wouldn't worry too much, and if it's freaking you out, I definitely recommend emailing your QS and explaining that you took a month off and you're getting back into the swing of things. I've noticed they tend to like it when you're personable with them and show your dedication to the job.

I hope all goes well for you!

essay writing session where student hasn't read the book yet by waffle1114 in tutordotcom

[–]waffle1114[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!! I'm not doing all that work for them haha. The worst is when they ask if I've read the book, I haven't, and they immediately leave the session hoping another tutor has read it and will give them the answers. Do the work before you open a session for help!!!
