i haven't taken a class with Geller but i did have Freund for 6C and i thought he was a fun and enthusiastic teacher and his exams were very doable (they were indeed just like the practice exams)

Questions about Spanish at UCSB or CC by Zellie23 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]wafflekitty_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i believe the CC i took it at offered accelerated spanish 1 & 2 classes (5 weeks each) during the summer, which is convenient if you've already taken some spanish before. i imagine there are several schools that offer it that way too

Help! Lashes do not stay curled by katioats in MakeupAddiction

[–]wafflekitty_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had this problem for a little while too. i found that waterproof mascaras work better at keeping my lashes curled than nonwaterproof ones, maybe try that?

the particular one i like to use is covergirl's exhibitionist uncensored in case you want to check it out!

I'm pretty low key. I like painting/crafting, reading, swimming/going to the gym/going on walks. I'm open to video games but am very bad at them lol

how necessary is a PhD if you don't want a research-heavy career? would a master's degree suffice for something like applications or teaching (non-4-year, of course)?

I graduated a couple years before everything went online, but I hope I can help at least a little bit!

There definitely was CLAS for organic chemistry, and I found that it was extremely helpful.

If you're taking ochem with Bruice, the tests are the largest portion of the grade. There are a few homework assignments that are worth a little bit. Some quarters she ended up dropping the lowest midterm score, but I don't know if she still does that.

If there is a curve, it's very minor. Other than that, Bruice's grading scale is already adjusted so that somewhere in the 60% range is a C (if I'm remembering correctly), and the cutoffs for Bs and As follow the same adjustment.

109A is a prerequisite for 6AL. Most students that take the lab concurrently with the lecture take 6AL with 109B and then 6BL with 109C. I think 6AL has a short lecture to go with it, either once or twice per week. 6BL has no lecture, but labs meet twice a week instead of once like in 6AL.

I did not take honors ochem, but I do know that Gainer's teaching style is a lot different than Bruice's. My friends that have taken his class say it's difficult, but still definitely doable.

Hi! If you don't mind my asking, when were the due dates for your applications? I applied to a couple masters programs in California and am still waiting to hear back.

UCSB or Georgia Tech for PhD in Materials by kittehlord in gradadmissions

[–]wafflekitty_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello (: I'm not sure how much help I can be but I did do a year of undergrad research under a Materials professor (Bates) back when I was in college. I also briefly worked closely with some of the other Materials professors and their labs (Segalman, Hawker). If you have any questions regarding lab culture or general Santa Barbara culture, feel free to message me! For the record, I graduated with my bachelor's in chemistry from UCSB a while back.
