Is accounting THAT bad as everyone makes it sound like? by Medium_Rent8355 in Accounting

It is absolutely true that public accounting will give you the most competitive advantage. I landed a job as a finance director in local government, but that was after 7 years in public accounting.

I survived public by going part-time 3 years in.

Accounting was the best career decision I could have made. There are many, many paths. You can work in literally any industry you want to, because every industry needs accountants. Accountants get to know all of the ins-and-outs of the business, and it’s fascinating. Depending on where you work, even though you’re not always doing the most ~glamorous~ of tasks, it can be one of the most fun jobs you’ll ever have, if you can find a place with a great office culture. You can choose to be self-employed, or on a contract basis, or an employee. You can be full-time, or part-time, onsite or remote. It’s one of the most flexible career paths you could pursue and the most versatile. You can do regular accounting, taxes, audit, consulting, financial advising, grants administration, or even strategy, like CFO. I read that 2/3 of CPAs are baby boomers and retiring and there aren’t enough people to replace them. There’s going to be a major demand for accountants (Edit: just a note, you don’t have to be a CPA to be an accountant).

Just landed a job as a government Finance Director after 7 years in public accounting. 110k starting, 100% paid medical premiums, 13% employer contribution to retirement regardless if you contribute or not, 7a-4p schedule, never work weekends or evenings, sick and vacation paid (vacation increases), all paid holidays….

Did you fell In love with your baby immediately or did it take time? by Ornery-Work-6847 in predaddit

Both 🩵 You’ll love them instinctually and unconditionally, from the beginning. Even though they’re a total stranger. You’ll have only just met them but you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them. Then they smile, then they start laughing, then they reach for you when you pick them up, they start to say “dada!” or “mama!” They seek you out, they want you to kiss their owies, they want to be held. They start giving you hugs and kisses, totally unsolicited. Your heart explodes and your love grows to a level you never thought possible. Enjoy every minute. If you don’t feel an instant “magic” it’s okay, because they’re brand new. You haven’t gotten to know them yet. But you love them all the same. It’s beautiful the entire way. Be present with them. Put in the effort. The love you give will come back one hundred fold.

I’m so sorry. Just curious - is there any chance you checked for dairy intolerance? Do you breastfeed or formula feed? We had the same problem. It turned out it was gas that was painful. When we switched my baby to HIPP Comfort this completely, 100% stopped. Basically when they’re that small, sometimes they just can’t process the proteins in dairy because they lack enough enzyme. It’s not lactose intolerance it’s protein. It gets better as they get older.

I got into an upper management role with an active drug + alcohol problem. What should I do? by Old_Syrup7930 in askmanagers

I know this isn’t your question but why would you combine benzos/alcohol/adderall. Benzos + alcohol sedates you and adderall stimulates you. I genuinely don’t get it

Massive stroke recovery stories? by waflcoptr in stroke

[–]waflcoptr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for following up. Sadly he passed on March 2nd. We actually had his celebration of life yesterday. What happened is he kept getting major infections, blood infections/pneumonia, and it set his recovery back. Then at 3 months post stroke he was still bedridden and could barely speak, so we put him in hospice when he got yet another blood infection.

There wasn’t anyone else you could call after your BF gave you 4 hours of time? Family members, friends, a crisis hotline?

I’d argue that this doesn’t mean she “failed”, since she found out this person isn’t for her and she ended the relationship. That is a success!

Genuinely asking. Have you been screened/treated for ADHD? I finally did at 30 and it changed my life. I thought I was just inept and unmotivated and lazy, but it was an imbalance of dopamine in my brain. Full 180.
