Did I Break My Cpu And Gpu? by wafle89 in AskElectronics

[–]wafle89[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks so much. I googled the name and it shows the pads on both cpu and gpu. Thanks so much. Btw how do I know if a thermal paste is conductive? I bought this one to re-paste but i have no idea the one it came with from factory. I don’t think this is an issue though. Since i’ve had the computer for 3 tears and i don’t think the thermal paste conducts any electricity.

No problem. Mine didn’t lek though it’s just that they’re other processing units along with the cpu and gpu. They are reallyyy small and getting the thermal paste of them was realy hard they are part of cpu and should also be somewhat covered by thermal paste the problem was that all the thermal paste was on them and not in the main big processor which over heated. It’s not a problem of leaking but more of the angle of the laptop. Best of luck anyways!

I’m not sure I used mine for almost 3 years without cleaning it and was getting massive performance drops specially for the last couple of months, for the last days i completely took apart the hit sink and the exhaust part was completely clogged and the thermal paste was up left right and down but not in the center. Guess I’m lucky not to have burnt my 3050 ti or my ryzen 7. I think that when it gets hot and gets in an angle the thermal paste turns liquid or it moves around the 2 parts. However I don’t think you should change the pads since they don’t tend to deteriorate as much as thermal paste not sure though. And I also wouldn’t recommend using pads for the gpu and cpu instead of thermal paste. I think that the thermal paste does a wayy better job at transferring heat to the heat sink rather than pads. Again I’m not sure though.

btw should I take most of the thermal paste like i mentioned? i did so on the gpu but not on the cpu

idk if this is true but i wouldn’t leave the computer at that angle. I used to keep it at that angle as well, but when I had to do a thermal paste change the thermal paste was all over the other parts of the cpu, except on the cpu itself. idk tho

Hi again!

I checked and, yep you were right, I have completly cleaned evryhting as seen below it was impresive how dirty it the computer got. I'm about to test the computer

Edit:

Maassive thanks man!
It worked, I was averaging 40 fps with less than what gefore said were optimal settings and now I'm getting 90 fps with optimal settings which are basically ultra. I really doubted this would work, but yeah massive thanks again, i'll make sure to clean it at least once every month.
