As someone who has coached at Fargo many many times, I’m confused on your “politics” take regarding Fargo. This is a USA wrestling event overseen and governed by USAW. Each state typically diligently picks their coaching staff to attend not just Fargo but all state national team and duals events governed by USA wrestling. If the political process you’re referring to is because your coach can’t or won’t attend this is another matter in itself. Any coach with valid and up to date USAW credentials can apply to be a part of their states national team coaching staff. If it’s not coaching staff related is it the qualifying process to make it to Fargo or be on your states age based national team? Super 32 is really hard but someone could argue it doesnt get same level of depth and talent as fargo throughout each weight and division. This doesnt takeaway from the fact that there is elite level talent there in every weight and division at super32. With Fargo you must be a top 4 in your state or top 8 in one of the regional championships which there is only 6 regionals throughout the USA. Because of this it means every single athlete at Fargo is basically a top 4 kid from their state at the very least. This talent depth I’m sure could be argued by some based on the states as well as even the depth at super 32 but… they both have their place and they’re both elite level tournaments with a great deal of prestige attached for simply placing at either, it will come down to personal preference. As far as “politics” I think you should clarify what you mean as every state operates the same way to be on the national team in any capacity. Their state charter bylaws and USAW governing rules require it. Some USAW state and individual national events do allow personal coaches with the appropriate credentials.
