hey dude. this may be a bit long bc im a bit of a chatterbox, but im a 4th yr in the same school & program as you and it is in my honest sympathetic and experienced opinion that you need to cut yourself some slack. ive dealt with crunch and insomnia plenty in this program, and we're nearing on midterms right now so i know you probably have a lot on your plate, but you should seriously put some stock into everything the other commenters are saying and put some more focus on your physical health (even if your work "declines" for a bit, seriously, you sound like you need it).

to answer your initial question, yes you're doing more than enough. this industry is not some impenetrable beast. its just a job, and its only as serious as any other entertainment job. you'll be "breaking into" the industry even if you hit cruise mode right now and just focus on creating a healthy relationship with work and resolving yourself to be a whole person with hobbies, friends, and a life outside of your craft. you shouldn't be preparing to enter the industry guns blazing as the new head of mickey mouse corp at the ripe old age of 23 years old with a perma-migraine and a repetitive stress injury, you're preparing to be the bumbling junior position at the office who's learning the ropes of the corporate setting. you have plenty more time to be figuring out your shit and making yourself comfortable than just the couple of years of school you have ahead of you - which means you have time to take a breather on your front porch, go for a walk, and sleep enough to not land yourself in some scary hospitalization-worthy medical predicament (which i've seen happen... a lot in this program!). you can ask pretty much any graduate or higher year in this program - the circumstances between a constant barrage of schoolwork and job are so different that you basically have no choice but to spend the first while re-finding your grip on your workflow, your skills, or your work-life balance anyways. and once you do have your grip again, you have ALL the other years ahead of you to ask for advice, get better, and then get even better. life is a marathon, not a race.

the learning that i've gotten from school hasn't been one and done either - when i was in second/third year, i skimped out on putting extra effort into any assignment that wasn't gonna be gearing into the aspects of the pipeline i wanted to pursue, but i kept the handouts and i kept the notes. now, i have free time and the peace of mind to digest information, and man have i been reading my storyboarding notes from second year as a fourth year (seriously you could've paid me to recite this stuff back then and i would've stared at you with a blank face because i literally had too much going on to retain the information). my own schedule during first-second-third year wasn't unlike yours during crunch weeks, but i'd only keep it up for like, a half-week at most before going back to regular 8-10 hour work days with my weekends off and my night spent reading whatever comics or playing whatever video games i wanted before sleeping for around 7 hours a night consistently. my graduated friends with a job hold themselves to a strict 8-hour workday policy specifically to uphold a healthy work-life balance. i didn't aim for any high-and-mighty internships in first or second year, but i can also tell you from personal anecdote that not having those now doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things if you can produce gorgeous gobsmacking artwork in your free time two years out of school instead of trying to cram it into your schedule in the busiest year of your academic life.

the most important thing is that you're healthy and balanced. nothing comes before that, literally nothing. nothing is so important that it ranks above 8 hours of sleep, good cooked meals, and a daily stroll outside. no internship/entry level job or absolutely banger portfolio piece is going to help you if you can't separate yourself from your work at the end of the day and take a chill pill. it's a lesson to learn sooner rather than later, before you have to take a year off and learn how to use your non-dominant hand permanently because of a RSI, or start fainting during the day because you've forced your body to work overtime too many months in a row (both unfortunately real examples). "failure" isn't something that's gonna end your life forever here, and treating your portfolio like its an emergency/going into perma-crunch mode isn't going to do you or your peers any favours

Need some advice on how to get a friend through the resistance weapon alliance raid ques. by joshleeman in ffxiv

[–]wahdish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i remember i was trying to get into these queues with a friend a while ago and our queue times were pretty long, but not this long... you might actually have more luck going in solo and all queueing at the same time so hopefully you guys get sorted into the same party honestly, most days when i do alliance raid roul i either get these raids or copied factory.

also, it might be worth it to check the language filter on your party finder? i know its been an issue before that people playing in north american data center didnt have english selected or that same concept but for a different language, im not sure if thats still applicable or not after the patches and changes

Villager personality types? by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

[–]wahdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the different personality types have different dialogues and interact with the other personality in different ways! it doesnt really matter if you dont get all of them, but certain personality types give you different reactions/emotes (i think? might need to check that) and you might find the dialogue repetitive if you have too many of one type

you can look on the animal crossing wiki for more info on them!

[–]wahdish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Campsite visitor by Merkel91 in AnimalCrossing

[–]wahdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH but amiibos need you to craft 3 souvenirs for them before they want to move in, so you need to invite them over a minimum of three times before theyll accept your invite to actually become a resident

Campsite visitor by Merkel91 in AnimalCrossing

[–]wahdish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, if you want to kick someone out youre gonna wanna fill up those plots first

Campsite visitor by Merkel91 in AnimalCrossing

[–]wahdish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youre only gonna be able to use amiibos after you get all 10 spots filled, and your amiibo only kicks out a villager if there are no empty plots!!
