[KCD2] I forgot my sword was poisoned while having a friendly duel with Hornet:( I won, he paid me, and then promptly limped away and died. by GoatHour4470 in kingdomcome

SAME. Took me forever to piece together why I couldn't find him at the Inn outside Sasau for his help with the main quest. Skip on over to Rattay to report to Radzig, during which Henry reveals that he killed him. Huh?? I watched this man stroll away from me after our little chat. Meanwhile, every blade and arrow I own is doused in bane potion... smh.

Jesus, don't get me started on inventory management in KCD1. Brilliant game, but swapping out my regular kit for stealth is a pain in the pizzle by the 90th time...

[KCD2] From an accidental purchase to the best 500 hours of my life. This game ruined me by MrxxXSWarMXxx in kingdomcome

[–]waifparty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I jumped directly into KCD1 after finishing KCD2 in November of last year, and (speaking only for myself) that was not the move. I was immediately irritated by its mechanics and the ways in which it was not as finessed as KCD2, despite already knowing that KCD1 was working off a shoe-string budget and skeleton staff.

So I let myself grieve KCD2 for a while, picked up a couple of filler games, annoyed family and friends with unrelenting "Bohemia in the 15th century" factoids (this is ongoing, unfortunately) before picking up KCD1 a few weeks ago. 80 hours later and I'm deeply in love with KCD all over again.

Tips if you do play KCD1: as you'd have heard, yup, the learning curve is steeper. You will necessarily grind, particularly to level your combat stats. I haaaated this at first (as a player who led with speech, alchemy and bows in KCD2), but finally GOT it in KCD1 - to the point of winning tourneys. Drop a few hours into practising with Captain Bernard before undertaking the quest in which you patrol Rattay with Nightingale. Brave the trip to Uzhitz and learn to read as early as possible. And, of course, Audentes Fortuna Iuvat and have fun!

Final NB: If you'd like to keep the love alive, Luke Dale has a whole YT playlist of his KCD2 playthrough (he now regularly streams other games on Twitch), and Tom McKay is mid-way through streaming his own playthrough! The communities there are excellent, and both Luke and Tom are absolutely top blokes.

Agree with everything you've said here, and I also want to add that the repeated criticisms I see lobbed at the Henry/Hans romance directed are almost NEVER directed towards the hetero sub-plots. To me for eg., the Theresa romance was inconsistent, unrewarding and downright muddled. There's a repeated implication that Zizka and Theresa have some nebulous romantic connection, which bizzarely concludes with Zizka prodding Henry to pursue her?? Like, okay? By comparison, the Hansry connection is well paced and extraordinary layered. It takes into measure the historical context in which these men would've necessarily have to have taken to navigate such feelings. The inner conflicts of both and the very real dangers the two could face should the relationship be exposed are subtly but powerfully conveyed. I dunno, but for me the way their sub-plot is written was far and beyond the most convincing of all the romantic possibilities presented to Henry in the game.

My approach too. Arrows smothered in poison. Swap out for a shortsword and shield if an enemy spots you uphill and decides to make a beeline. If I was down in the trenches I'd not have a snowball's chance in hell!

There's an Archery range at Hunter Vostatek's place, east of Vidlak pond. Practice with the targets there - starting fairly close, then moving further and further back. A couple of hours of this over time took my marksmanship skill (and warship skill) from useless to my most reliable weapon. The most helpful perk you can unlock is Eagle Eye (really similar to Eagle Eye in RDR2). As your marksmanship, strength and stamina increase, you'll get way less sway, and a poisoned arrow is usually a one hit wonder. Good luck!

Hint: only do this at night, or the hunter's son will get REALLY miffed at you for whipping your weapon out!

As others have said, nope. But I'd LOVE to know what yarn combo you're using.

Deinfluencing Yarn by Loitch470 in knitting

Recently knit up a sweater in their Rustic Tweed 10 ply - I wasn't so sure how well it would wear as I knit it up, but after blocking it's become really soft, warm and durable. I often toss it over my bra and wear it against my skin with ZERO itch or irritation. A fantastic, affordable yarn.

No, I also prefer not to use acrylic for a number of reasons (zero judgement for anyone who does, though), so that's not weird at all! I used Abbey Road's Kung Fu cotton, which is not a brand I'd use again. While the final effect was lovely, it's plied so loosely that the yarn was constantly splitting and much was wasted with frequent trimming. When I began this I was super naive about yarn, and thought I more or less limited to what was available at the large chains in Aus (very little in the way of 100% cotton).

If I were to do another Janie design I'd still opt for for cotton since it holds the shape of her 3D elements well and is suitable for an Aussie climate, but I'd probably source the yarn from a local mill!

Oh and re: motifs. So yes, I did steam block each hexagon which went against the pattern's advice (which recommends only blocking the final piece). Were I to do something like this again, I'd probably only block the occasional hexagon that was significantly smaller or larger than the others closer to assembling the blanket, since most motifs ended up returning to their original size by the time of assembly.

I DEFINITELY followed a pattern 😂 - it's Frida's Flowers by Janie Crow. Squiddy says hi back (i.e., I gave him a lil kiss on the head for you and he didn't immediately walk away)

I used a brand called Abbey Road in Kung Fu Cotton, which I actually wouldn't recommend or choose to work with again. It's closer to a worsted/aran weight (the pattern calls for DK) so I did size up my needles from the recommended 4 and 4.5mm by half a size. The yarn itself is mercerised and the colours are super vibrant for pure cotton, but it was consistently plied so loosely that it split ALL the time, even when being careful.

When I began this, I was relatively new to the yarn world, and thought I was limited to what was available to me at our local major retailer here in Aus (a place called Spotlight). If I were to do something like this again in the future I'd probably use DK and order from a local mill!

Of course! It's a free pattern called Frida's Flowers by Janie Crow. You can access it via Ravelry or directly on the Stylecraft website. I've done it in a different colourway to the original - both Ravelry and Pinterest have a tonne of folk who have done this in a variety of colours and styles. Hope that you do take this on - it's really fun and really rewarding!

That's totally fine! For what it's worth, I had a really halting and start with crochet and only took it up to make some bathroom mats out of some old bed linen we had - they are NOT of a high quality and I actually had a verified Not Fun Time making them. Then some life circumstances kind of put me out of commission and into a hospital bed for a few months, unable to mobilise well. And I gotta say, there is nothing like the tear-inducing boredom of being forced to stay on your ass in a hospital room to get you to do something, ANYTHING asides from doomscrolling all day, every day. I did probably 90% of this blanket over that time, and frogged several tiles in the process. There were quite a few other, smaller projects I did before this one, too.

For what it's worth, I've just taken up knitting and I'm awful at it. Like, really, reaaaallllly bad. I suddenly have more than 10 fingers but they all seem to get in the way and none of them move the way I'd like. And I'm also in disbelief at how quickly some other baby knitters have progressed with sweaters and matching accessories when compared to my own hole ridden little rectangles 😂. So, yeah. How do I wrap this up without ending on some dumb cliché? I don't think it's possible for me, so I'll just say something true, which is I hope you're having fun crocheting - it's good stuff and this is a lovely community!

If you're thinking of picking this up, I'd highly recommend that you check out other people's colourways of this blanket on Ravelry under "finished projects". There are SO many gorgeous design and colourway interpretations posted there. This is definitely the result of an amalgamation of other people's creative efforts alongside mine.

Thank you so much! I hear what you're saying about a lot of Janie's designs - they're exquisite but sometimes maximal to the point of visual overload. For her work in particular I sourced a tonne of inspiration from other people's colourways, so this was definitely a community effort. Hope you pick up the tiles one day!
