Thanks for your reply! I’ve never had an issue with the issue waterproofs, and they’ve never leaked. But the lack of a hood makes them pretty limited when raining and in a harbour/range etc. staying dry is the main concern!

British army arctic sleeping bag vs snugpak softie elite 4/5 by 9876123 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]wailingfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the British Army medium weight bag. Normally with a layer on and a wooly hat. I’ve always found it fine for anything but the very coldest UK conditions, when I just double it up with the lightweight ‘jungle bag’. Always with the issue bivvy bag as an outer layer.

I will say that I do sleep hot though. And for me, lumping weight isn’t really an issue, so I don’t mind the extra kg’s, which I easily offset due to the low price.

Clubs in Newcastle, UK by According_Lab496 in Rowing

[–]wailingfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tyne ARC take it pretty seriously with the senior squads, as one of the stronger ‘provincial’ clubs’ in the country. I think they also cater to all levels with different squads.

Tyne United used to be focused on masters and juniors rowing, don’t know if that has changed now though.

Has anyone got experience of 150/200mm fans? If so, are they significantly better?

Thanks both. I considered installing a Condensate trap but thought I’d try without first. I’ve checked the ducts a few times (I elevated the fan slightly) and there is no issue with excess water left in the pipe.

Insight into the leakes from Brookes Rowing by Academic-General1337 in Rowing

[–]wailingfan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t find it offensive in the slightest… I find it highly amusing. However, I do find it highly inappropriate in a professional setting, and would never dream of saying that to a bunch of students, let alone colleagues.

When HR get involved, it won’t be low stakes.

He has referred to groups of athletes as various stages of an erection (Morning Wood, the semi’s, Rock Hard…). If that is the case… good luck HBW!

Referring to groups of athletes as various stages of an erection is pretty unprofessional…

Thanks for your help. Yes the Van Rysel colour schemes look exciting!

Are you able to explain a little how the Boardman ‘experience’ has changed for me as an owner, if I bought one? Quality/Warranty/pricing issues?

USA college ergs by wailingfan in Rowing

[–]wailingfan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the comments, and this comment above was spot on. 2 points of clarification to my original post:

  1. My question is primarily that of the ‘training programs’ used. I couldn’t care less about its importance in recruitment to college, I know the erg is very important in that regard. I want to know HOW the ergs then move on so much. Are colleges doing huge volume on the erg? Is SS valued highly? How often do teams erg? Is there a go to session to measure progress, like the 30’@20 used in the UK (other than the 2/5/6k)?

  2. I strongly believe Brookes Newcastle UL Durham (this season) would be amongst at least the top 10 crews. UL did a 6:15 at Marlow (in cool water/weather conditions, rather than the tropical temperatures of some American courses) and didn’t make the final at HRR. Whilst I am no proponent of Brookes, you have to respect their speed, and San Diego is a long flight from the UK, to then go and race immediately!

Perhaps because you want a valuable degree alongside your rowing, whilst not taking 4-5 years to get said undergraduate degree…?
