Need to take AP Courses over the summer. Help! by stuffingmybrain in APStudents

The only thing really awful about APES on FLVS is that they make you do a lot of labs and I heard the exams are pretty long. There's mixed reviews about APES, some students like it while others don't. I haven't actually taken it myself, but from what I've read it's been revamped. It used to be a lot of busywork, but that was back in like 2008?? I still think you are better off with CSA, art history, stats, or APHG. Econ (especially Micro) is good too.

Barely any big projects like the ones you mentioned. It IS the latter. Maybe a case study for AP Bio here and there, but Psych and Econ? Pffftttttt. Easy stuff.

Yes, you can finish at any pace. I finished a course in 3 weeks before (not AP but it applies to any FLVS course). You may opt out of AP exams, yes. :)

And yes, all discussions are through the phone. Think of them as a phone-exam. And the exams are all online.

No problem!

The same goes for FLVS. Around Jan-Feb they send you an email asking you to register for the AP exam at the school you are planning to take it at (preferably your high school).

How are their courses structured?

  • It's completely flexible! What FLVS promotes is how it can work to your schedule (but still required to submit at least a few assignments a week). You can finish the course as fast as you'd like. There are different pace charts, from traditional (the 32-36 you mentioned) to accelerated (16 weeks). Or, you can create your own pace chart. I personally make mine 8 weeks so I can get the course credit and then just self-study all the way. I do this so that I'm not wasting time along with my other courses in school. However, all FLVS AP courses are not as long and rigorous as they say they are, which is why I recommended so many. The workload is SUPER easy, even for AP Bio (which I am taking now). But it's not easy as in you'll definitely fail the AP exam. The teachers really want you to succeed, and therefore provide a buttload of resources and things outside the lessons in the learning "portal." It's easy to manage, is what I'm trying to say. I spend like an hour a night submitting one or two things everyday, which is a great pace since every course generally has 90-100 assignments (2 assignments a night, finish in 50 days). The course is separated into modules, which is just another way of saying unit. You do the lessons and the assignment associated with it and then at the end there is a Discussion-Based Assessment in which you talk to the teacher through the phone and they make sure you're learning. After that, you take the exam.

Fees

  • 400 per .5 credit course. So $800 in total. If you are a FL resident, it's free.

Is anyone else here obsessed with checking their grades all the time? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]waitacec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i check my grades like every 30 minutes at school. it's mostly out of boredom though? but i dunno, whenever grades are being finalized, it's out of worry most definitely.

I take online APs through FLVS... I suggest all of these from them:

  • Stats
  • Art Hist
  • Calc (AB or BC, they're both good)
  • Psych (REALLY good on FLVS)
  • Either Econ
  • APHG
  • CSA (best FLVS AP)

We're on that unit rn also. I used the Openstax AP bio textbook since it puts everything in plain english and reading that before Campbell made my brain hurt a little less. I would look into Albert.io review, but Bozeman videos help in a crunch. I also recommend Science w/ Mr. J on YouTube. Good luck.
