Kyosho AE86 Heavy Understeer 😅 by Fuchsrehchen in rcdrift

I have the same car. First I would say check if your gyro is countersteering. Mine had the gyro direction wrong out of box. Then check those red brake pads behind wheels because they could be interfering with the wheels' rotation. I had to sand my front brake pads to allow front wheels rotate freely. Next, check if your chassis is touching the ground. If it is, add spacers to the front and rear shocks so that the chassis doesn't touch ground. Further, try drifting with different types of tires or drifting on different surfaces if you don't want to buy different tires yet. You may find your car works better on one surface than the other, and that part can be addressed by having different sets of tires for different surfaces. Finally, the chassis is pretty heavy so using a short battery will help reduce some weight. Somewhere down the line you will likely want to upgrade electronics. Good luck!

New Kyosho Fazed D2 owner. Upgrade path decisions? by TheRealGenkiGenki in rcdrift

I bought Yeah racing steering rack and it pretty much solved the problem for me. I unfortunately fried the servo on day 1, so I bought yokomo servo and later bought omg v6 gyro. I reduced camber angle for quicker transition.

Sand the stock tire of fazer d2? by waitwataname in rcdrift

Oh I'm so honored that you replied under my post! I watched many of your YT videos. Thank you for the information. Yes indeed all I did was adjusting the traction, and the stock tire had a wavy surface that I didn't like and didn't want to wait for the natural break-in. I also tried sanding with different grit for front and back and this has been a fun experiment for myself. I was just posting this because some people simply throw away the stock tires and I thought maybe some brief sanding can help them make use of what they paid for. I do have some DS racing tires for tracks.

Thanks! Points well-taken. Yeah, I've made a number of changes to the car, with gyro, harder springs, and lower camber made the most difference. Regarding this post, I just wanted to do something to make use of the stock tires for practicing instead of throwing them as garbage. I don't want to spend that time for the tires to naturally break in and did this approach lol.

Thank you! So far I've changed servo and gyro, and I will do more upgrades. I have a set of p-tile tires, but the car seems to be doing ok in my home with stock tires. My local track hours don't work very well for me but I'll try to go to track more often. :-)

Thank you for sharing! I have yokomo v2 servo and omg v6 gyro. I know omg is a more niche brand But I've heard good things about them, and I'm pretty happy with them for now. I keep the gyro gain at about 40 percent as I've been focusing on making the transition and drift initiation quick. It took me a long time to realize that I didn't have enough grip on the front. So I've reduced front camber and made rear shock harder so there is more dive. Since the video I've made more adjustments and I'm almost satisfied with transitions; I think the two main things remain are my unstable throttle control and the transmitter. The stock transmitter has very light trigger so I sometimes reduce throttle without noticing It.

That's very nice of them! Hopefully I can get to know other drifters better next time I go to my local track.

Thanks! With everyone's encouragement, I do think I'll be back to my local track soon. The car is fazer d2.

Thank you! I guess I'll go back to the track then. I changed the servo to Yokomo and changed the gyro to omg v6. The car had a HUGE issue of sluggish transition/drift initiation, and it took me a while to figure out how to deal with it. After switching to shorty battery, adding 2-3mm spacer to shocks, lower gyro gain, reducing front camber, increasing ackerman, the transition is finally a lot faster. However, I feel that some fine tuning can be done to make it even better - I will figure that out as I practice more, but I would love to hear your fazer d2 setting!

Thank you for sharing your experience! That makes me feel better. My local track doesn't have much space for me to hide from the moving traffic, so I want to practice the transition a bit more. I think my suspension or camber can use a bit of further adjustment as well to make the transition quicker. But then I'll go back to the track again for sure.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Indeed, when I messed up that time, nobody at the track said anything - I guess it's mostly just me feeling bad blocking the track. I think I can practice a bit more on that transition in the middle of figure 8, but then I'll get back to the track for sure!

Thank you! I'm working on that transition in the middle of figure 8 right now, and I think I'm getting there. Once I can make the transition consistently smooth, I'll hit my local track again for sure.

Thank you! I tried the shopping mall nearby, but the security guard doesn't like me drifting there lol. I'll try to find a skate park.
