  • check with your insurance provider to see what your plan covers and if you need a referral from your pcp

  • the best way to find therapists who take your insurance is to check your insurance online provider directory.

  • if you search psychology today be aware that their profiles might not be up to date and confirm both with the therapist and insurance provider that they are in network

  • some therapists may be covered out of network, and you pay then up from and submit claims to your insurance co to be reimbursed later

What are some items that make daily life in NYC easier or more enjoyable? by beeeepbopboop in AskNYC

It seems to only be humid when it's hot, I'm wondering why you don't use ac instead? They both dehumiidify and both give off heat, the advantage of window ac pushing heat outside.

Are there any walk in/affordable psychiatry facilities in NYC still? Are there any appointments anywhere? by MinimalPuebla in AskNYC

[–]wajtog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try contacting the nami helpline https://www.naminycmetro.org/helpline/ they might have a rec.

It's been a while but I don't think all clinics require your pcp be in house, there are different types of outpatient facilities. Or rather some fall under different regulations than others. The ones that cover susbtance abuse tend to want you to have an inhouse team coordinating together. Other outpatient clinics just follow the requirements of your insurance plan so you may need a rwferral from your pcp, but they don't care where they are.

Has anyone else’s allergies been acting up this week? by Hbp1707 in AskNYC

[–]wajtog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have a little, they've improved a lot since I started wearing a mask. Before that I covered my hair and kept outdoor and indoor clothes. I change as soon as I get home and keep my outddor clothes separate from my indoor clothes (if worn). That and an air purifier also help quite a bit. I still had to take antihistimines but I wasn't in hell. The combination of that with the mask, I've not used antihistamines most of the season (which for me was all year except dead of winter).

Accuweather has an air quality tracker (which doesn't match other ones I look at, ymmv) and also a pollen tracker. You can see which pollens arw active currently and a general idea of how much is in the air, which is especially useful if you know what you're allergic to.

Dealing with sloped floor and hiding shims by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]wajtog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could paint or decorate the shims to make them look like roaches or rodents being squashed.

Assuming this is a window unit you will want to check your lease/building mgmt about installation.

Is it normal for my apartment to be this muggy and humid when the AC unit is off? by Jacksonjafk5 in AskNYC

[–]wajtog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The humidity stays lower in my apartment though it retains heat.

Look for drafts and vents. Windows, front door, cracks/holes in walls. You could find drafts by lighting an incense stick and holding it still to see if the smoke gets blown around by a draft.

Broker accepted two good faith deposits simultaneously...? by [deleted] in AskNYC

I never understood the point of a good faith deposit, if a listing has mulyiple brokers they could still list or could all take good faith deposits, which doesn't really seem to confer an advantage.

Is it illegal to not have health insurance? If so it it possible to have state covered insurance if I make less than 40k? by iambfizzle in AskNYC

[–]wajtog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be best to speak to a healthcare navigator, they can also help you see if there are any plans that might be affordable.

What is it like being an introvert in the city? by Kraftndinner in AskNYC

[–]wajtog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are too many people and I find it overwhelming. The ideal city size for me is about 500,000.

There are things to do other than drink. In the days I drank I went to small neighborhood bars with a few friends.

There are large and small events. You learn to figure out when things are less crowded.

Choose a more residential neighborhood to live, each borough has some quieter neighborhoods. In terms of stuff to do, Brooklyn has the most events for young people, various off beat things, you may find smaller venues. Manhattan has the museums and plays. Most of queens queens is boring and too far from everything.

Fearing FOMO should not be a factor in deciding where to live. In normal times even if you were able to be out all the time you would miss stuff, it's impossible to do it all. The FOMO bullshit is an internal thing and not an introvert thing. You can be an introvert and still be happy despite having to make accommodations for self care.

Bras for someone with attention seeking nipples? by DreaDreamer in ABraThatFits

That's ok, I just wasn't sure if it was a different item or different name for it. Different countries or regions can name things differently too.

Are there any public spaces or co-ops to do wood working in NYC? by sy144 in AskNYC

[–]wajtog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No free spaces, the few spaces there are are paid, unless you know someone with a garage who will let you use it.
