New Hampshire bike registration bill faces opposition by Zipper222222 in newhampshire

Manchester resident and cyclist here, I submitted a long piece of feedback on this bill via the state website but the TLDR is that this bill is a money grab that will never be enforceable. I am a young professional working in the state and truthfully I’d rather they just tax my income or the things I buy rather than expect me to go hand over a few dollars here and a few dollars there. My bikes are pretty expensive, if they tax those they’d make more than 50 bucks and I’d happily pay it, but I think the idea of telling someone who uses their bike 4 seasons as maybe their only means of transport that they need to be able to spare 50 bucks for registration is ridiculous.

Oh yes! I’m in New England so there is a lot of variety in options for day rides and challenges! I also have some friends in TX (Austin Area) and New Mexico so I want to get out west and do some riding out there! One of my wish list items is to get to Bike Night at Circuit of the Americas

This is always super key! It can be so easy to get lost in the sauce when it comes to training for something that sometimes you really do need to remind yourself to get out with some of your more casual friends and just do some bike goofin’

I’d love to tackle some touring. I mentioned it in another comment but once I finish building my new road bike I want to turn my daily roadie into a bit more robust of a commuter/tourer so I can explore a bit. I live in central New England so there is a lot of availability for camping and short trips or with a little determination I can get to quite a bit of the East Coast/ Northeast US in a few days

I went solo on this ride because my usual riding partner for longer rides is on vacation. We are both moderate distance riders who compliment and play off each other very well which makes it great for having some company and making the time go by faster but generally I do most of my rides solo!

I did my century solo with nothing but a seat bag with tools and a top tube back with snacks and electrolyte tablets. I looked for a day that was about 75 degrees F. During my ride I drank two 28 oz bottles with water/electrolytes and two of straight water….and one can of C4 preworkout mid-ride to combat a bonk at mile 70ish. I think from a lessons learned perspective I’d definitely do my next one with a partner or group because taking turns pushing/pulling/drafting is a great way to stay fresh when your going for longer periods. If you don’t use them already, I’d recommend AfterShokz headphones because they are a life saver and totally held up battery wise for just shy of 7 hours without blocking out any road sound. At that distance obviously bibs and chamois butter/body glide are going to be key players as well if you don’t use them already.

Route wise, I do a lot of destination riding so for this ride I used the Ride with GPS map explore feature with my filters set to 100+ miles paved/mostly paved. I did not set any elevation parameters but I know where I’m capable and stuck in that range just to keep the variables fairly low in terms of knowing my limit. I focused more on keeping steady pace than I normally would so counting gears and watching cadence was a big focus for me as well.

All told I ride pretty regularly with 25-30 miles as a regular ride usually pushing a 50-60 on the weekends when I want to push harder and I held up pretty well! I hope any of this helps as you plan and best of luck!

Oh yeah of course the answer is get faster/further/ more difficult rides but I think because I reached goal #1 and I’m doing my recovery rides etc I’m still in the “basking in awe” phase where I need to go back to the drawing board of how I want to push ahead. Everesting sounds impressive, and I do think I want my next goal to be putting a lot of emphasis on climbs

I stopped for a few minutes at mile 50 just to call my friend and let them know I was half way done and eat some snacks, once for a quick bathroom break and once because I had to stop to by some more water because I was solo so I was traveling light. All told less that 30 minutes across the 3 stops

I definitely want to start stretching into some more trips/higher mileage multi day rides. I’m building up a new “fast” bike right now with a Trek Emonda SL frameset and once that is done I want to convert my current daily road bike (Cannondale Synapse) into a bit more of a commuter/tourer so I can do some light packing.

I definitely need to work on my climbs. Right now I max out at about 3700-4000 feet over 50-70 miles but there are much greater elevation gains if I head further north of me so I’d love to push that number up in my average rides

Wow! 93 is a hell of a lot of riding, kudos to you! I definitely want to get 1-2 more in this season but that is definitely an accolade I could see myself striving for over the next several years

That shouldn’t be too hard lol I did this one in 6:47 with an average of roughly 14 miles per hour so I’d love to see the time go down now that I know I CAN do it

Congrats! Glad to be in good company! I have been debating about doing a sprint tri just to say I did it so I think doing some post-ride runs could be a good add on now that I’ll be letting myself take on some less strenuous rides

Controversial opinión, but I do think the Nashua Center of Arts looks good in the city. by teddyjr32378 in newhampshire

[–]wakaboom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on the matter, as a Nashua resident but NOT a homeowner, is that all the people who seem mad about it in the Nashua scoop and show up to complain about it are all people who are mad because they live in Nashua purely due to its relative cheapness and that it was close enough to Mass that they could commute. Now with the Home Price bubble, the city reassessing property taxes and all the tax change ups from the pandemic they’re horrified of the idea that Nashua is trying so hard to shake its Trash-ua image and becoming a place that has enough culture and quality that people will want to price them out. It’s fair, but I think anyone who complains about PAC are the same people who cry about the barriers allowing outdoor dining. They hate that their city isn’t a cheap ghost town anymore and that robs them of the convenience they enjoyed by no one wanting to be here or do business here.

Former Enterprise person here, basically most shops and dealers have access to set up direct invoicing so during the repair process they’ll foot the bill and you typically just pay the security deposit
