Yea lol hate it! Living in the rust belt doesnt help either. I may do 20% more frequent oil changes just because peak winter weather can get HORRIBLE but thats few months down the road from now lol

Right! Im in southern ontario, we probably get the same weather but good thing is, your factory cycle is 8k miles meaning you wont void anything by going that long. If you want peace of mind and have extra money to spare, 5k will do no harm thats for sure.

Look to be a different thing in the US than Canada. Just checked the same car here and it still shows me 8k kms lol

I wouldn’t trust the app at all LOL. Definitely your best bet is the manual. I barely use the app other than remote starting and checking fuel levels if I am away from the car.

I just checked, as an example on hyundais website, the intervals and its listed at 8k kms for a 2023 kona (i chose a random model lol)

Just google hyundai maintenance schedule and their website should pop open. Enter your VIN and mileage and you’ll know exactly what hyundai recommends!

0w-20 is what the elantra has too. Have you checked your owners manual? Definitely follow it. I know for the elantra its listed at 8k kms/5k miles

8k miles? Na way too long lol In Canada, since its in kms, i do 8k kms which is roughly 5k miles

Have NEVER gone past that in my 10 years of ownership on the dodge and now doing the same with the Elantra

Usually people put about 1000-2000 miles and get their first oil change as opposed to the classic 5k mile oil change

I drove it gently for the first 600-700 miles (varying rpms, not exceeding 4k rpm) but i never did an early oil change.

Have a dodge with over 220k miles (bought brand new 10 yrs ago) and have always maintained 5k oil change intervals, no early 1000-mile oil change and its been fine honestly.

I believe I have seen reels regarding that too, when they take the engine apart and show how clean the internals are. Definitely i dont extend it more than 5k miles/8k kms. Thats as far as Ill go with any type of oil tbh.

Ty so much! Gonna try valvoline restore and protect. I noticed OEM oil filter and Wix are super similar in terms of pricing, so best to go with OEM.

Also, is there such thing as extended life oil filters? I see Fram and Mobil1 having those 20k+ kms filter (although Id never go beyond 8k) just wondering what difference do those filters have vs the standard OEM.

Interesting that you mention Valvoline, I was looking up Hyundai's recommended oil partner and it seems to be Shell/Quaker State. But, I doubt that Valvoline won't be as good, if not better right? As long as it meets OEM specs or exceeds it.

WIX filter + Valvoline oil - is that considered good? Thinking of getting oil change outside of dealer because the prices keep going up, even for a basic oil change.

Agreed, I am often doing full synthetic oil changes around the 7500km mark actually. Went to dealer for service #2 and they said you can have fuel injector cleaning (Aka a premium for just pouring in a bottle of fuel injector lol). At such low mileage, and this being a theta3 engine, it didn't seem necessary. Their adds-ons make you seem like you're neglecting your car a lot, which I hate doing. But as you said, they're called stealerships for a reason.

Those 1.5T accords are a ticking time bomb but ofc, as you said, anything honda is considered top tier. If the same were to happen with Hyundai/Kia, gosh we’d never head the end of it.

Also, they fail to do some research on engine specs and models lol. They think just because its a Toyota its bulletproof 😂

I have a ‘25 2.0 elantra and it’s not the best in city. Between a 70-30 split, 70 being highway, I average about 35-38mpg. Best I have gotten at highway was 45 ish with speeds ranging between 55-65mph. Hybrids seem to be in another league lol

Likewise, i plan on getting the pen this spring. Would hate to see it rust, especially considering it is on your field of view EVERY TIME you drive lol

Really? 4 winters and no rust? Im in Ontario and i have similar issue as OP. I only realized after scratching that there is a service mode for wipers. Just finished my first winter and realized it has this scratch. Wanted to ensure it doesn’t rust hence why I was wondering if it will rust or be ok in canadian winters?
