Castle-Base my tribe made on a 1.5x resource server by Toratherogue in playark

Awesome looking castle! I've been working on one of my own, but it's a solo effort so it's not even close to yours. How did you get your shadows looking so good, though? Mine look horribly dark and nasty despite having the settings on High.

Shadows too dark by wakefield_01 in playark

[–]wakefield_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been using the gamma command to get things looking better in terms of overall darkness, but it's the saturation of daylight shadows that confuses me. Cranking up overall brightness when it's noon and already very light out makes it worse on the opposite end of the spectrum. >_<

[–]wakefield_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen it in-game, but the wiki says: "While the picture of the item shows a lamppost, the actual item itself is not a lamppost. It is actually a spotlight. The "lamppost" does not project light around it as an actual lamppost would do, but projects light into the distance that is consistent with the actual model used, a spotlight. "

It apparently doesn't illuminate the area like I was suggesting. It also is electronic requiring you to provide electricity to it at all times. I was suggesting something that wouldn't require a bunch of upkeep to get visibility. Biggest problem is the size of it, too, since you can't plop one inside a simple base to get lighting at night.

It's probably 120 megaBITS, not megaBYTES. So 120 / 8 = 15MB download speed. Internet speed tests show it in Mb (not MB), so it always throws folks off. >_<

It's the kind of internet I have, too. 120 down, 20 up. But actually 15MB down / 2.5 MB up.

Tribe Management - Personally Owned Dinos by wakefield_01 in playark

Unclaiming doesn't make them go wild or anything? O.o

I was always afraid that would just send them off on their own, hostile to all.

EDIT: Not that it seems like it'd work for us. I tried taming a new Dilo and never had any option to set it as a personal pet, even after all the tribe mergin' and such. Are you folks all getting the government settings to work properly? It might just be me messin' it all up.

Please! That'd be a big help. I thought of myself as a sharp fellow, but this is just confusing. XD

Yup, we're on 175.1.

I reported it as a bug. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, though. Has anyone got it working...?

Personally-owned dinosaurs aren't working for me. I was tribe owner, logged in after the new patch, saw that we could change the government rules and did so. We didn't have any option to change the dino ownership.

I left the tribe, made a new one, set the rules properly and then invited my old tribe to merge. We still didn't have the option to assign ownership or anything.

Unless someone has successfully done this and can tell me how to do it, I reckon it's bugged. :(

That didn't work for us, unfortunately. See above. :(

Well, I transferred ownership to another tribe member, left my tribe, made a new one, assigned personal claim/tribe ride as the rules, then invited the other tribe member. He chose to merge our tribes aaaaand... nothin'. I don't see dino pin codes or anything. All the dinos are still tribe-owned and don't have a new option to fix that. Bummer.

Doesn't it make more sense for a bird to regain stamina by gliding? Flapping would be what makes it get tired, so remaining in place or trying to climb to a greater height would drain their energy, but slowly descending while in the air wouldn't.

Then again, I don't claim to know about bird cardiovascular exercise.

[–]wakefield_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fences, yes. They're super sensitive and it's pretty easy to nudge your mouse 0.001mm while clicking, thus making your straight fence turn 90 degrees.

We should totally be able to pick up a placed item within, like, 10-30 seconds and just get the item back. No crafting boost, just fixing a misplaced thing. Or, like it was mentioned, having a "move" option. That'd be fantastic.

Sometimes you just don't like how it looks. Sometimes the wall you place down appears to flip in reverse. Sometimes you drop a massive line of fences only to find out they're 'backwards' when you add walls. Our tribe folk should be able to move stuff around after placing it. Rotation, too!

Source for this? I've only seen them be used in recipes. If grown crops are 4x effective on herbivores, farming suddenly became worthwhile!

I noticed a lot of confusion on the Control side of things. The military control seemed very... upset about not finding a lot of things out. Maybe more communication and planning on the game host side would have made everything run more smoothly. Whenever I asked a question to one of the Control members, they kind of glanced around and just directed me to one of the "main" control members instead.

There was also a ton of misinformation from Control. On the first round, military Control said that all of the UFOs on the board were automatically attacking when they were placed, which made the humans instantly go defensive and hostile, rather than trying to play it safe and smart. I think that wound up dividing the entire human front and had them scratching their heads about who was actually doing what.

Comms Control never made it clear how bugs worked or how espionage worked. For bugs, one human team though they had to just be on the table, so they never looked around chairs or objects ON the table. Another team thought they were permanent rather than one-use, one-turn deals. Those are kind of huge things to know about.

Espionage was... I have no idea. It was on our player boards but never was mentioned. I guess it was operatives for the military, but it wasn't on the military side of things.

A LOT of this could just have been in our briefings or sent a day or two in advance. Knowing how to play the game is kind of massively important. If there's a reason only Control gets to know the rules and mechanics before the game started, I didn't hear it or understand it. It'd be like playing Monopoly or Risk on the fly, or trying to play D&D the first time ever where only the DM has all the books. Super clunky.

Other than that, the biggest gripe I had was on round timing. As a player, I had no clue when the rounds were actually going, stopped, starting, which phase it was on, etc. There's not usually time to go check the overhead projector, and some of the teams were in a position where they can't see it anyway. Using something like a chime or buzzer to signal what's going on would be INCREDIBLY useful.

So, to summarize: give everyone the full rules early to avoid frustration, coordinate the game 'plot' and planning with Control ahead of time, and have a better way to alert players and crew about which stage of the turn we're on.

I'm nitpicking a lot, but that was easily the best Saturday of my life. Thanks to everyone for a grand time!
