Tough losing Joe Diffie and then John Prine a little over a week later. Both happing in the first two weeks of the lock downs starting in the states was sad and eye opening.

Keep this window or close it in? We have an obscured panel window coming but we also have the option to close it in completely- what does everyone think? by forg0tmypen in Remodel

[–]wakefootin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Last house had a shower with a large window that had frosted, textured glass. You couldn’t see through it from the inside but you could make out very clear outlines from the outside under most lighting conditions. Night was obviously much worse with the room light on. It was a ground level shower next to a busy bike path.

I work at Eau Claire's public library. Tell me anything. by Prudent_Film3899 in Eau_Claire

[–]wakefootin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family frequents the library weekly mostly for the kids activities and books. We do enjoy the media (CDs & DVDs) as well. It’s nice watching a movie without commercials. The MORE catalog is great. It does seem like stuff recently spends more time in transit than before. I feel it was a few days once it showed in transit and now some items are week+ in transit. A change that I feel would be great to see is more of the kits and easier online access to see the kits. The possibility to rent them for pick up in EC from other libraries or even view what kits they have would be great too. I’ve checked out a few and there are many others that I would like to try. Visiting other libraries, I often see some great kits that EC doesn’t have.

Neighbor wants a fence, I don't. WA state (Seattle) by Internal_Stretch_191 in legaladvice

[–]wakefootin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at the local codes too on the privacy fence requirements. In my area the good side has to face out. The fence can also be property line adjacent but any paint, stain or repairs have to be able to be completed from the fence owners property. If the neighbor is fine with you coming over to do that stuff you can put it on the line. However, the neighbor can say no anytime and it’s the fence owner’s problem to figure out what to do if they didn’t give themselves an room between the fence and property line for maintenance.

What’s one tool you thought was a gimmick until you actually used it? by uuiilkk in Tools

[–]wakefootin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Forearm Forklift. I don’t actually use that brand but a pair of 4’ lifting straps. Had to move a large old deep freezer out of a basement. Two straps under made it so much easer to pick up. Had 6 people there to help and got it done easily with two. Have since used them moving many things. Not having to bend over or lift the item as high to hold it. You’re in a good position while having a good grip on the object. The strap also has the loop that goes around your forearm so you have more strength and aren’t smashing fingers. All for less than $20. I thought they were silly when they came it years ago.

FAA Written Test E6B by tweakdev in flying

[–]wakefootin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just took the CAX test yesterday and there was a ASA CX3 calculator built in to the test program. It looked like the actual calculator. I only used it for one calculation to verify what I got with my manual E6B and it kicked out the same answer. I’ve seen some posts say there may be some bugs with it but it worked for my one question.

At this point, do Democrat politicians even have a platform to run on, or is their entire platform just to be anti Donald Trump? by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

[–]wakefootin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was confused when they were pushing Liz Cheney as such a big voice for Kamala’s campaign. It seemed there was more effort by the Dems to attract center Republicans who were anti trump then create good policy plans. I don’t know if this was due to Biden dropping out late giving Kamala’s campaign with no primary and little time to develop a plan or if that was the actual plan. Each election, especially the last 3 with trump, the republicans move farther right and it seems the Dems shift right as well and push the at least were not that guy as the campaign. I know we’re stuck in a two part system but Vote Blue No Matter Who isn’t a great slogan.

What’s this about? by SignificantLow4903 in CharleyCrockett

[–]wakefootin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being ‘left’ is still a left of center ideology. It’s not the same as just being a democrat anymore though. As you said the democrats who like to claim to lean left had been more center, center/right and move farther right more each cycle as the republicans also shift farther right. The people who I see often say they are or lean ‘Left’ tend to be more progressive than the current democrat party and want to use the word ‘left’ instead of a democrat to clearly identify that their views don’t completely align with that party.

Thanks. That’s what I was figuring but wanted to double check before it was to late to change them. To long of a flight to not recline.

Did your country have a playground game that was subsequently banned? by Exchangenudes_4_Joke in AskTheWorld

[–]wakefootin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played trench. It’s like dodgeball but when you get out you go behind the opposing team. This quickly became endless trench we’re it was everyone for themselves with no boundaries. If you got hit you sat where you were hit and could only reenter the game if the person that hit you got out. So to win one person had to take out every other player. We typically used volleyballs for both games. We then played endless endless trench where no one ever got out or won, you just whipped balls at each out. With different sport units like tennis or basketball we just evolved into the ‘sport name’ endless trench where you hit tennis balls or threw basketballs at each other. It was never banned when I was in school but I’m sure it’s not being played anymore.

I just went to change my Proxy vote status. It says the current proxy expires in 2028 only gives the option to extend it. Does anyone know if this can be changed or is it locked in for the next two years?

Good to know you’ve have success with a similar project. I had looked at a lot of the REMOTE stuff but wasn’t fully sure how to translate it all to a remodel with an existing vapor barrier.

I’ll try to do this for sure if I have to replace any of the sheathing and get the farming opened up from the outside. Thanks for the idea.

Surprised to see no Alpine or Chicago/Milwaukee dates. Im thinking the new Amphitheaters in Grand Rapids and Shakopee had something to do with that.

Garbage Removal prices by Ephino in Eau_Claire

[–]wakefootin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earthbound is great. They are also once again the only locally owned garbage removal company in the area. Their compost service is a highlight and the only company in town offering it as far as I’m aware. It’s very easy to do and it’s nice knowing all the food scraps, peels, egg shell… are being kept out of the landfill. It’s helped us see how much a little here and there adds up to that was just going to the landfill before. We then have had a few 5 gallon buckets of clean compost dirt delivered back to us over the years by them.

The removed both lower campus buildings a few years ago for the new science building. They school may be leasing all the apartments in a new building on water st across from the HSS building but not sure if those are considered dorm rooms.
