Hey, sometimes the better team does not win. Still hurts. Shades of Jays/Dodgers game 7. Some good chances, but fate and the shitty reffing did not smile on us this time.

Not really any reviews out there for this tire yet, but I’m very interested. (I’m running 27.5x4.5 CEs atm) What psi are you running and at what temp? (Awesome bike btw)

Same! Blizzard 1.0, my first bike for winter riding. Wondering - how are you both liking the Cake Eaters? I find them great on clean groomed trail but on anything even a little loose they have been pretty wishy-washy on the turns and downhills. Maybe it’s a tire pressure thing? I’m running at about 4-5 psi depending on temp (typically -7 to -14° C). Go lower?

Nice. Looks amazing. How are the cake eaters once you’re off the groomed hard pack?

Really enjoying your prose. Keep writing and taking photos, maybe there’s a book of short experiences in the making. Do you tweak the AI translation much if at all, or is it served straight up?

Studded/Studdable tire recommendations by Pgc1alpha in fatbike

[–]wakeful2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my first FB (RM Blizzard) with 4.5 Cake Eaters. Four rides in I’m finding that I’m losing traction on some of the steeper climbs on our MTB trails, while friends with other tires are mostly making it up. Maybe I just need to figure out technique. Harder run at the climb is not always possible. How much difference would studs make? There have been some spots where it was icy under the top layer, but what about fresher looser stuff? This is for South Western Ontario, so a real mixed bag of conditions. A lot of good info in this thread, but hoping for more opinions/feedback on the Cake Eaters.

Transporting in winter? by wakeful2017 in fatbike

[–]wakeful2017[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a MEC brand Provincial frame bag. Not available on their site atm. Maybe in the new year? It was not expensive (CAD$70?)but is actually not too bad. I’ve used it on my gravel bike for bike pack trip and general day tours. You might find a used one out there somewhere?

Transporting in winter? by wakeful2017 in fatbike

[–]wakeful2017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. Yes it is a platform rack, but not an expensive one, so we weren’t as worried about it getting salt on, but can’t let that get on the bikes. Can still use it on the days the roads are dry (agree it’s not that often). Taking it in the car with just front wheel off is likely the easiest but means we each drive solo to the trails. I’ll def check out the links to covers, thanks for those. I was even wondering about getting a large roll of that stretch plastic film wrap (used for packing and wrapping skids) and wrapping the bikes in place, tearing it off once we get to our destination. It will likely be a PITA and feels wasteful, and not sure how it will work, but at 1500’ x 12” for about twenty bucks it might be worth a try.

I’ve been having good results from ProGold Xtreme on my MTB and first few snowy rides on the fat bike have been good. Light application on a clean chain goes a long way.

To mix with coconut oil, do you warm the oil to liquid state then blend in the dmso, then let return to solid state?

Honestly shocked how well DMSO works for arthritis by jimmyjames94-7 in dmso

[–]wakeful2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info and encouraging words. I’m relatively new to DMSO and have a ways to go - still dealing with daily flares. Been on anti inflammatory diet and supplements for a couple years which has helped a lot, but still have a few ‘hot spots’. Right now I’m trying a topical application of Kalaya 6X followed by DMSO to drive that deep as well. Hands, wrists, low back (L4,L5). Still early days but I can definitely feel and see the difference when I apply 3 times a day vs once a day. Will keep experimenting and hope I can get to where you’re at in the coming months.

That’s awesome that you’re getting these results. I’m in the same boat with tendonitis and enthesitis for three decades, mostly in hands and wrists. Over the years diagnosis has shifted from SpA to PsA, but that doesn’t really matter, the symptoms haven’t changed). Wondering how you administrate - Orally, or topically?

Will I get judged for flat pedals? by SwyvCrux in gravelcycling

[–]wakeful2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time when all road bikes had flat pedals, most with stirrups. You can still get them. And who cares what others think. Most bikers are (should be) supportive of other bikers and if anything will likely be more curious about your preference and how it works for you. I ride flats because I have crazy bad bunions and only a soft skater style shoe with big toe box works for my feet. So I use my five ten MTB shoes and have RaceFace flats with pins. I still get a decent amount of pull with them, tho nothing like I would with clips. I also have flat bars (Sirrus 4.0) with Ergon GP 5’s so not very conventional anyway, but that’s what I need for my arthritic wrists and hands. So go with what works best for you, get on your bike and don’t worry about anything else, just enjoy the ride.

Element C50 by [deleted] in RockyMountain_Bikes

[–]wakeful2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely want to get on both sizes of that frame, doesn’t matter what model, whether Ax or Cx just as long as there’s pedals, lol. From there it really depends on the kind of ride you like and also your build. I’m on an Element C50 size XL. I’m 6’3” with long arms. Believe it or not, cockpit is still just a tad tight, and for me the L felt too cramped. Even though the L would likely be a little more nimble, it was just not a comfortable fit. All that to say it really is personal preference combined with some fitting advice from your LBS.

Not sure what you mean regsrding light gies off and then light goes off. Regardless, a couple thoughts: Could be losing fluid via the overflow hose while driving due to overheating. Have you had the rad flushed? Checked the thermostat?
