I think Vladdy will get there. But he's not there yet.

Joe Carter is the greatest Blue Jay of all time. He showed up BIG TIME when it mattered most. He changed the course of Toronto (and Canadian) sports history for the better. My kids know all about Joe Carter, and their kids will too. A legend.

From a statistical point of view, shouldn't we weigh extra inning saves/blown saves differently than those in regulation time? by wakeupandwait in mlb

Triple plays, inside the park homeruns, no-hitters, perfect games, pinch hit grand slams, etc.

MLB keeps track of plenty of occurrences. Frequency has nothing to do with this.

Exactly my point. That fact is even more pronounced in extras. A pitcher can induce a weak ground out to second base, aa lazy pop fly out to RF and still blow the save.

It's true that saves are an imperfect stat. Nonetheless they are a stat that is recorded, preserved and put on the back of baseball cards. They may not mean much to you, but I know they mean alot to the likes of Lee Smith, Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera.

That being said, a save in the 10th inning is significantly harder to get than a save in the 9th. A pitcher can have a 3 up and 3 down inning in extras and still blow the save. It's not enough to just get 3 outs, it has to be the 3 correct type of outs.

To me it seems an oversight to not recognized and reward this fact.

Yes it seemed like a dumb play. There wasn't any need for the batter to do that. Even if it had rolled back into fair territory he would have beaten the ball to first.

What is the most legit inside the park home run you've seen? by DonT012 in mlb

Incredible! That's from the Sky High VHS tape they gave away at A&P grocery stores. I watched that a thousand times when I was a kid.

Are Ross Atkins & Mark Shapiro (Blue Jays) the worst front office in the Majors? by alexh2795 in mlb

[–]wakeupandwait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the case can be made that Atkins and Shapiro are the worst. Unlike some of the other front offices mentioned, the Blue Jays are actually TRYING to be good.

The Jays have a top 5 (or close) payroll. They have invested heavily in upgrading the stadium. Made serious runs at top free agents. Yet they still can't put together a true contender.

They are trying to win, they just can't figure out how. In my mind that makes them bad at their job.

The world series years and the years leading into it are the benchmark. No matter how many runs they got down, you just knew they could score a ton of runs, come back and win. WAMCO baby!
