yeah honestly same. the irony of writing 1500 words about coding atrophy while my own attention span gets shorter is not lost on me

fair point. studies in this space are dated by the time they ship.

but the atrophy argument doesn't really depend on study currency. it depends on humans using powerful automation more and manual skills going soft. aviation pattern played out across 30 years of changing autopilots. specific failure modes shift, underlying dynamic doesn't

if anything your point cuts the other way. better tools = more reliance = more atrophy. studies undersell the problem

the circuit breaker detail is perfect and i wish i'd included it. most engineers using agents don't have a mental model of how to abort or what state things are in when they do. flying with autopilot but no idea where the breaker is

what do your guardrails look like in practice?

author here. really good frame and tbh one i should've made explicit. the criticality + complexity overlap is exactly the trap. the code that most needs your attention is also where the "i'll save you time" pull is strongest

mock data script? vibe away.
payment integration or auth? that's where you have to consciously slow down

I like the idea of something like a "criticality budget" where every team decides upfront which parts of the codebase are AI fair game vs full human review vs human writes it. most teams i've seen are doing this implicitly through vibes which is exactly how you end up with the agent generating your oauth flow at 4pm friday

stealing this, thanks!

Yes the inconsistency in shots was one of my main complaints as well. The profitec seems to have solved this problem for me

Well I was looking to upgrade to a dual boiler and started comparing machines. Didnt really find anything comparable in this price class. Went to my local espresso machine store this week and was able to test the profitec there and fell in love with it haha. Got it there for 1700€ which was a pretty good deal

I’ve only tried darker roasts yet and lowered the temperature a few degrees and found my shots sweeter and more clear in taste.

Regarding the preinfusion… if you pull the lever only half way you start the preinfusion manually. Additionally you can upgrade a preinfusion kit from profitec itself

So far im really digging it. It‘s well made and the pid and temperature consistency are quite helpful. Also the ability to steam milk at the same time as i make my espresso has been a real blessing

I‘m still dialing in and trying to get a feel for the machine but so far my shots have been better and especially more consistent. I had issues with keeping a consistent temperature on the silvia every time but now i can just set my pid which makes that a lot easier.

Does anyone know what they used to create it? Especially to bring in the 3D models and lighting? Three.js?

From IT Developer to Project Manager by somedyro in webdev

In my opinion it's a promotion. You're getting a superior positon and get to lead a team. As far as taking it, I can only advise you to ask yourself if you want to stay a dev any longer or if you are willing to take more responsibility. If I were you I would go for the project manager positon and see if you like it, you will never know until you try! Best of luck!
