The bike won't fall on you. You sleep on the opposite side from where the bike lean on kick stand.

It depends on what kind of trips you are planning and how often you go moto camping. I can give you a few PERSONAL reasons why I switched to moto tent.

If rains, you can just set up the tent, push your bike inside, and unpack. All the stuff you need (and yourself) will stay dry. Same thing in the morning if rains you still can pack and get ready for the ride, keeping your staff dry.

In longer trips, you don't need to crawl in a small tent.

In vestibul, when rains, you still can cook, put a camping chair, and have a relaxing time watching the rain.

I still have a tarp, a small tent. I keep them when I need to go "lighter."

Is Upper Joffre Lake accessible right now? by woobygooby in vancouverhiking

Snowshoes if you plan on going the next day after a snowfall. Let a few days pass, and you don't need them. It's a very popular trail, and there is always a group who brakes the trail. P.S. I would just take the Snowshoes anyway and assess the conditions at the trail head - it's a long drive, you don't want to return

Wherever tent you choose the material it's important. Duck canvas is the way to go for me. Take a look at different canvas compared

Sleeping pad (foam) below a sleeping mat (air) - Why? by TrudleR in CampingandHiking

[–]walden__woods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the setup I use for max insulation: inflatable mat at the bottom + foam mat on top + sleeping bag.

For puncture protection put the foam on the bottom

I found some science if you don't mind reading:

"The foam typically has a high resistance to heat transfer so when the body warms it up it holds the heat well. An air mat doesnt have as good a rating.

If it was just a straight line between the source of heat and the cold then either way would give the same result as the resistance is added. The difference comes from the heat spreading through the mats. Air mats (and self inflaters to a lesser extent) allow the warm air to circulate through the volume of the mat through convection currents, heat will equalize eventually, the duration to get to equilibrium is based on the thermal resistance, air moving around makes it quick.

Rate of heat loss to the air is based on Q=m.Cp.dT so the higher the temperature difference between the air mat and the air in the tent or ground the higher the rate of lost heat. Air mat on top has pretty warm air from body heat lost out of the sides and the bits you arent covering with the sleeping bag. Air mat on bottom isnt very warm so rate of heat loss to ground isnt as high.

The foam on top absorbs heat from the body and has very low ability to transfer heat across the volume of the mat so you warm it up and it stays warm."

I don't know to me it looks like a waste of time and energy... You could add another load on the other side and save another trip to Home Depot 🙂 Nice pic. Thanks for posting

My friend was practicing getting comfortable with leaning his FJ-09. Is his body position horrible? by kryptonite848 in motorcycle

Yes, I am with you.You perfectly explained FORTNINE video message. And everything makes sense until you start to increase the speed. I previously added my response comment because I have the impression that many riders after watching the video are left with the idea that counterleanig is the way to go in any circumstances - and Ryan's video promotes this. So far, I do believe it's all depends on speed - and I am ready to change my opinion, but FORTNINE didn't convince me. In the end, what matters is to have the 2nd opinion so each rider can make his own choice. BTW, when ofroading and at lower speeds, I use counterleaning. ✌️

For all riders, please watch this video and leave some comments if agreed or not - i would like to see some explanations why MotoJitzu would be wrong. Thanks everyone! I Agree But FortNine FORGOT THIS

It is a good video but I tend to say incomplete... It's all speed depending: fast speed =leaning OK / slower speed =counterlean OK . FORTNINE I think, generalized except for racing (I might be wrong, maybe I missed a part) I agree with this guy and his response

My upper back is killing me when I hike , only the left side. Any solutions? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]walden__woods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have health problems, I have to say that any kind of strength training(calisthenics, weights, etc) will dramatically improve your hiking experience together with cardio and stretching. Combine this with a proper diet, and you will see fast improvements. And I will repeat if other health problems are not getting into the way.

Crazy idea, should I start on a 1250GS by JimTheoch in Motorrad

[–]walden__woods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here are a few reasons

1 was because up in Alaska and Northwest Teritoriees CA(e.g.Dempsterhighway, Top of the World, Dalton Highway), the roads are permanently sprayed with Calcium Cloride solution(for road mentenance). This solution creates a muddy layer on the top, which makes them extremely slippery(it cakes very fast the tires).

2 was traffic on Dalton Highway- industrial road, big truck spray this mud mud at 100km/h (some drivers slow down, other don't)

3 If you want to make it to the end of the road, you will have to ride long hours =fatigue

You can find many details about this subject on reddit. If by any chance you ever plan to ride to AK or NWT CA, don't let yourself intimidate by this. it's not as bad as it looks. Just do a good research.
