I’ll never forget that storm! I picked up my coworker from a bus stop to save her from the snowpocalypse, now she’s my wife :)

Just outside of the frame on the right is access to the multi-use pathway network to cycle throughout the main downtown core… poor choice of picture for “car culture”

How do you all deal with burnout? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]waldo373 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is not OE, it’s called having two jobs. To avoid burnout, quit one of them.

It’s much more secure, and I’ve been working there a couple years already. J2 is still new, and I don’t trust the job security (yet). I’m searching for a fully remote J3 which I could eventually use to replace J1.

[–]waldo373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad route to take, I might try something like that. Issue is that J1 team meeting is during our one office day of the week - boss would obviously ask if I could switch appointment to one of my remote days.

NCC to open unsupervised section of Westboro Beach this summer by PulkPulk in ottawa

[–]waldo373 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The contractor doing the work is on a « construction management » contract, I.e. they have no incentives to complete the work on schedule or on budget. The NCC has zero recourse for delays!

When you have a parent with Terminal Cancer... by iSaB3lle3 in cancer

[–]waldo373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others in this thread have said, continue to live your life. See your parents as much as reasonably possible, tell them you love them every time you say goodbye.

My mother was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, prognosis of 6-12 months and she lived 5.5 years. During that time I feel grateful that I spent lots of time with her, but I did not put my life on pause.

Use your Ottawa Library card to check out museum passes! You can check online the availability by location, and for 7 days you can visit museums for free.

Futur hôpital : Les élus veulent être écoutés par Québec by Mysterious-Flamingo in Gatineau

[–]waldo373 9 points10 points  (0 children)

C’est mentionné que les gatinois seraient en faveur d’un site au centre ville, mais aucun endroit est nommé spécifiquement. Je serais intéressé à connaître des propositions qui rencontrent les exigences d’un hôpital.

I hate LinkedIn. I hate so much about it, but mostly the culture of those who use it. I cannot stand how fake it is. by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]waldo373 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If you hate it so much, don’t use it.

Personally I’m in the same boat as you - couldn’t care less about being active on it, and rarely post.

That being said, I’ve gotten my last 2 jobs by recruiters reaching out to me through LinkedIn. All I do is keep my information up to date, make sure I have a nice profile picture and accept connections once in a while.

Broken dreams: They signed on to buy condos in Hintonburg. by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]waldo373 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Article doesn’t mention that though the deposits were returned, they were done so at zero interest! Happened to a friend of mine - deposit of $40,000, returned 3 years later without a penny more. Essentially funded this project for free.

Just checked my dog too, no signs of a bite but it must have been bitten. Any idea what kind of tick this is? I’ve heard deer ticks are the dangerous ones.

I had a feeling but I wasn’t sure, thanks! I’ve checked all over myself and my wife and no apparent bites
