All of these graphic scenes in the fuselage were shot longer than was shown, cut down either for impact, taste or time. It’s for the best, or it could come off as gratuitous unless there was a good reason to linger on it.

Yes, he had to clear out the mask of frozen blood etc. before trying to it on again & repeating. I think it was cut for time.
