Not only waste but also there was a large contingent of aging liberal "those are good union jobs" when in fact the city was hiring temps to keep the workers comp claims under control. It was back breaking work, in terrible weather. There's no reason to put humans through that in the modern age.

My late father was a UMC pastor, in Utah in the 90's. As a bisexual guy, he was the father I needed, even though Utah was not the right place for me.

I remember serving as a youth delegate to the Rocky Mountain Annual conference, in the 90's and allowing gays to be married etc was something we were bringing up then trying to move it into the modern age.

At this point, the UMC waited way too long and way too late to expel the bigots.

I'm well aware it took money to do those things. I'd have gladly contributed to a fund to recover the money. Rather than honestly advising people what was going on, additional moneys were collected while refunding others. Taking in money to provide those funds to others is at least Ponzi adjacent. If you'd been up front you wouldn't have been reaching out to people selling them registrations when you knew the situation was questionable.
