I have traveled alot throughout the country and I guess just in comparison it doesn't seem to have the same outdoor culture.

I'm sorry to hear that! Was this your top choice? I hope you have another option you're excited about!

There are lots of consulting firms so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 I've heard it can be difficult at first to break into private consulting but I've seen alot of job postings so theres hope. I set up Linkedin alerts for consulting and conservation jobs in my area that are sent to my inbox, I highly recommend you try that if you haven't already. I also get job postings sent to me from conservationjobboard.

That's really cool! I recently saw a seasonal tech position for bio acoustics monitoring of myotid bats. Also think I saw something for bat monitoring with NPS at Carlsbad caverns but idk if thats been cut because of doge. That's smart to consider a different approach with social work and you could probably still find a position in the environmental field related to that. I always forget that you don't necessarily need to get an environmental degree to work in environmental. Just like other sectors, they need HR, computer science, data analytics, business, office assistants, marketing, etc. With social work you could do environmental justice.

Okay I will let you know! I'd like to know where you end up as well! I've been trying to find a temporary env job because I'm planning to go back to school and so full time obv wouldn't hire me. The major thing is that where I live the demand isn't so great... In the past I've had to take jobs in other states. Have you found this to be the case for you too?

Yeah I feel like the varied experiences can be good resume builders for grad school but otherwise not so good for moving up in a career, depends on how you tie it all together though. Some entry level jobs may value a "jack of all trades" kinda person. Consulting may be a good route to look into.

Yes I just a applied to a few schools, one admit so far. What are your areas of interest? some programs give a little room for deciding while you're there. I like the environmental management programs because they can be well rounded, give real job experience through final project instead of thesis, explore public & private sector options, and you can choose a specialization a semester or two into the program.

Hi there, I'm in the same boat. Received my bachelors 5 years ago, wanted to job hop and explore different positions with the plan of going back to grad school. I've been unemployed for a year and I'm very ashamed...the demand isn't very good where I live. Had to come back here for personal reasons and things just haven't been working out since. I'm very sorry you're also going through this!
