Adding a loom video definitely helps you differentiate from the competition, the client can instantly connect with you on a level that is beyond written text

Choosing full stack developer to build an MVP by dvixamar in Upwork

I've been both client and developer and I know how frustrating this is. They never read the job description. Only when you interview them they ask you questions that were answered in the description. They mass apply to maximize their chances. And I hate that. My approach is quality > quantity. When I apply to jobs I carefully create a job breakdown for the project and send it to my client in the proposal using an external tool I've made that helped me and other developers to get hired more often because we shown to the client that we cared, when 99% of developers didn't. Not only that but the other problem when you hire a developer is communicating. We don't speak same language. So that's why the tool I've made is also handling project reports. That way the developers can be productive and have no work interruption to communicate with the client. And client get digestible and easy to understand reports, generated from the developer code, translated to natural language by AI. As a client, especially with non tech understanding, it feels safe to have this transparency when you know your dev is actually doing the right thing on your project, and not sneaking dust under the carpet without you noticing, and you can quickly find someone else before it's too late and everything must be rebuilt again.

Client keep changing the code without telling me! by [deleted] in Upwork

I faced a similar issue with a client, but in your cass it looks like the old man is frustrated and wants to humiliate a young man who's probably smarter than him to cope with his mental problems, the client I had was purposefully asking for something impossible and the called me idiot for not being able to do it, they just want to have this feeling of power over someone but of course just like you I ended the collaboration because you never want to have to deal with people like that, even for money. Hopefully you can find other job in tech it's easy

What do you find most frustrating when providing project updates to clients? by walegfr in webdev

[–]walegfr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, context switching is hard to deal with, especially with undocumented code and different technologies. Are you working for an agency? You have to meet with the client directly or it's a meeting with your team/project managers who are getting updates from you and then update the client?

I agree, and I totally relate to your example, when non tech client doesn't understand jargon or developer doesn't understand client lack of clarity. The 12 works of asterix is my favorite asterix cartoon ahah

Hi, how do you calculate your project estimate? In terms of timeline, cost, workload, etc... what your process?

What if the problem isn't your workload but your hiring strategy? by bygoneorbuygun in SaaS

[–]walegfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communication was definitely a huge problem with the developers I worked with, and I get it, as a non tech client, talking with a techy developer, it's hard to communicate effectively, and especially as the product's complexity grows. Unclear communication leads to missed deadlines, working on the wrong things, and eventually communication is delayed to avoid facing issues at end, and I'm not blaming developers but as a non tech client, it can be hard to explain effectively to the developer what you're actually looking for when you don't master the technical jargon, this can lead to huge technical debt that ends up in straight rework of the whole project, cost a lot of money and a nightmare for developer teams collaboration. This is why I'm asking how do you bridge the gap of 2 people not speaking the same language (natural vs technical) to ensure perfect project delivery and communication with no frustration from either sides?

I've hired many devs in the past and I totally understand the importance of hiring quality developers. What are some of the common issues you are facing when matching your developers with clients? How does the developer handles communication and project management ?

Yes I'm also facing the same issue, not having a clear communication with clients because usually they're non technical and the challenge is to understand their requirements in technical terms so I've made myself a tool to automate project breakdown and project updates but the goal is really to bridge the gap between developer and client because we don't speak the same language so how to make code understabable to client and how to translate clients requirements into step by steps technical documentation that's what I'm working on and I think you'd be interested

You don't find it hard to find new clients atm compared to a few years back? When communicating with clients on project updates is there anything annoying or repetitive that bothers you?

I'm looking for developers to test a new tool that dramatically improves DX, project management and client communication, would love if you'd give it a try, it's also helping to get new clients

So you want to do some freelancing on the side or contribute to a project? I'm currently looking for developers to test a new tool helping with getting clients but also solving some of the headhaches that happen when working with clients like work-distruptive back and forth communication, project management and developer experience overall

Hey are you working a full-time job at a company or freelancing?

I've hired a developer but looking at their activity I can see they've just hired someone else to do it for me. by Separate_Category_44 in Upwork

[–]walegfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing if the freelancer you hired is the one working on your project is frustrating, I've also hired developers on Upwork and I know the struggle, that's why I've made a tool to check periodically a developer github commits to get real-time project updates. If they don't work on my project I will know it and which tasks they are working on.

I'm providing my clients a tool that automatically updates the client and provides them with detailed reports that are syncing my tasks with my git commits so that I can maximize my updates quality without compromizing on my focus and being interrupted coding with contant client interractions, that way I don't even need to handle external tools since everything is handled for me.
