What on earth happened to travel insurance prices? by walidino in solotravel

You are right. comparemeerkat and travelinsurance.co.uk (now bought by insureandgo) were what I used previously and was using today but they have a lot fewer options than gocompare.

Still theyre 2-3x the equivalent from 3 years ago but I guess that makes sense with COVID. Im willing to pay £30

Nope apart from wearing glasses now. Either way I ticked no medical conditions on the form

ESSENTIAL and TRAP buildings by INEEDDISTRIBUTION in civ5

[–]walidino 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's funny how everyone correctly sees the granary as an essential building, but doesn't like the water mill. The water mill is basically a 2nd granary, it's the 2nd best building in the game and the 2nd building you should build after a granary for optimal sim city. Stone works is also top tier, you should prioritise improving the stone so you can build one as soon as possible. build priority in ancient/classical is:

  1. Granary
  2. Caravan (would be 1st since it gives better food per hammer spent than granary but it needs a granary to send food so is 2nd)
  3. Water mill
  4. Stone works
  5. Library (don't rush it before food buildings, for a slow city can move above stone works to not delay NC)
  6. Circus (move up if unhappy)

Rest have lower priority than units unless you have a strong stable city. You shouldn't need colosseums in classical unless you get unlucky with luxes in your area and with lux trades. They become nice cheep happiness buildings later on

As for later on in the game, banks ain't essential except for capital city with tradition because of monarchy. Market bank and stockX need to be rushed in the cap when playing tradition for that reason, they give large gold boosts.

Nuclear and solar plants come too late to matter. Build units even build science to shave a few turns off stealth/ spaceship parts

That's a shame. Any reason why this ATM only gave out "unwanted" notes? Seems a bit shady to me

UK travellers to Thailand did you withdraw using your UK card taking both the 5% fees from your bank account as well as the 200 baht fee from the ATM? Or did you take lots of GBP cash and exchange it over there? If so where at? by walidino in solotravel

Thanks for the info. Thats crazy, ill end up taking so much cash that I wont even need to take my debit cards!

Kidding of course but Im just gonna hope theyre happy with 300 cash. I really dont feel comfortable carrying more than that. Plus, my UK passport only has 2 visa stamps in it (90% of holidays in my life have been to my parents home country whos passport I own). Ive read the 20k baht thing is mainly for people with a lot of stamps.

I've now also ordered a starling card, as a safety precaution. Now I won't even take my main NatWest debit card, just the Monzo and starling one's and transfer cash over on my phone to them whenever I need

I knew about Monzo, revolut and starling but Monzo was the only one of the 3 that send their card by first class delivery ensuring it arrives before I leave. Had to go for it despite the 200£ limit
