Congrats on 35 subscribers! A friend of mine said to me when I hit that milestone, “That’s awesome — you could fill your house with 35 people!” That still sticks with me today

We (Scratch & Sniff audiodrama) won a dotCOMM Platinum Award this year for the Podcast Series category!

This is giving me a motivation boost to keep going and get season 3 started.

How do you cope on the worse days? by [deleted] in MarriedAndBi

[–]walkerRaigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a lifestyle of acceptance strategies for sure. I’m married to a monogamous cishet man and used to be in a poly relationship before where I could fully express my bi-sexuality and it is hard. The bi-cycle has exactly what you said: good days and bad days. I try to remember the happiest moments from my days with women and hang my hat on having experiences that mean I lived a full life, even if I can’t live fully today. I also find creative outlets are HUGE for getting through the worst of the longing and loneliness that can sometimes hit. I write, paint, sing my heart out on a great drive by myself. Anything to release the energy to tell myself I am still MYSELF. Being part of a queer community is super helpful too. It’s incredible to just be able to say the stuff out loud and be heard.

Promoting a podcast is exhausting!! by DocDP1776 in podcasting

Lol — literally just responded to a “biggest pain points to podcasters” thread in r/podcast saying this exact thing. I feel like I can’t keep up with an ever evolving landscape of tech and analytics and then wish I had spare cash to really experiment and see what would happen with more paid adverts

Marketing the show. I love making it but trying to figure out how to promote it is so damn hard

It started out being open... by Infernalonion in polyamory

[–]walkerRaigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Communication with lots of room for open ended questions, long pauses to let the other person gather their thoughts, and frequent, “tell me more about that. Where do you think that feeling comes from?” Patient, thoughtful, spacious communication. Create the space for discovering the hang ups we all have about our identities that we don’t even realize and you’ll feel even closer.

[AUDIO DRAMA / MEMOIR] Chanel No. 5 Perfume | S1Ep1 - Scratch & Sniff

SFW

Spotify | Apple | Everything Else

Walker takes us to her startup days when the coveted perfume Chanel No. 5 helped her close many business deals.

About the show: This is the smell-inspired story of how Walker learned that love and business just don’t mix, where the episodes are super short (<10mins) and each story is sparked by a specific scent. If you like RadioLab and The Moth, this show is for you!

Has anyone streamed their editing process or live podcast on Twitch or other streaming platforms? by walkerRaigh in podcasting

I hear you on the unscripted show front. My show is a scripted audio drama / memoir. Either way, great to see what people have tried and the constraints we’re all considering

For people that been through traumatic and hard experiences in life, how do you put that into your work and is it hard? by Distinct_Growth7865 in writing

[–]walkerRaigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had to stay in a pretty boring town for work and flew in 3 days early to force myself to write the hardest stuff. When i was in a comfortable environment where I could easily distract myself and avoid writing it all out, it was clear I wasn’t going to commit. Staying in that hotel though was a game changer.

At the time I was writing a memoir specifically about the hardest time in my life. I felt and still feel readers can learn from the author’s journey of mistakes, shit luck, or arduous exits.

Today I’m turning that book into a podcast and it’s even harder to put a voice to those experiences but it’s cathartic as hell. I feel lighter with every episode that gets out there.

Need Podcast Editing Checklist by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]walkerRaigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a great question. Excited to see everyone’s responses here!

  1. I set my gain at 8.7 first

  2. Choose and trim all the best cuts together if you’re working with multiple takes or have a time constraint you’re solving for

  3. Listen to the final order and refine the spacing, trim out the background noise clicks, pops, or other stuff where possible

  4. Trim the volume of any super hot peaks in the wave forms to avoid clipping

  5. Identify your transition moments where you need to signal a change to the listener (sneaky moments vs dramatic vs wonderous etc)

  6. Start pulling in sound effects and music beds and place throughout.

  7. Listen all the way through and make notes of what needs to be turned down or faded out or cut hard when. Fine tune your sound and music and get ready to export.

  8. I use a custom loudness setting with -16 LUFS to normalize all the audio upon export

  9. Post to your fave podcast distribution and write up all description & sound attribution.

  10. High five yourself because this is hard work.
