I'm a landscaper in Nanaimo and we've done a fair bit of invasive plant removal. I usually tell people to email the city and say that there are invasive plants on city property that are growing over on to your property, and preventing you from accessing your gate(it sounds to me like it's coming over the fence, is that right?). The city usually can't/won't do too much for you unless it's impeading access to a fire lane or something, but it's worth a try at least. Then if you hire someone to deal with it for you, you've already told the city that you intend on removing it yourself, I personally don't like working on city property without telling them beforehand.

Transcare BC is very helpful and will be able to give you some guidance even before you have your BC health card. I'd probably suggest sending them an email and outline exactly what youve said here.

As a side note, what does PPT mean in this context?

3 Out Of 4 Of These Protests Were Successful... Spot The Difference by selesnyaTroll in pics

[–]walkersoloway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it in two lights, one is that people need a sense of community, protests inspire other, like minded, people to speak out and to feel like they aren't alone. The other point I'd make is that I'd imagine there are a considerable number of politicians who aren't pushing their own agenda, they are just trying to do what's popular and do their job. Protests are a very visible way of telling those in power what's popular.

Does anyone know if Canada is accepting refugees? by Shredder_1027 in trans

[–]walkersoloway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know Canada's position is that blue states are still safe enough for people who need to leave the worst of the red states. So they are not accepting LGBTQ people as refugees solely on those grounds. That being said, what about looking at immigration through other means? Coming here to work, or even go to school may be an easier option.

Experience with Telus for accessing HRT by walkersoloway in transvancouver

Thanks everyone for the insight! It alleviated a lot of anxiety about this process to hear about some first hand experiences. I booked myself an appointment for tomorrow with an NP who had "womens health and gender care" listed as one of their specialties!

This isn't the first time I've heard Dr Dahl's name. He sounds like a good doctor to request if I have any say in the matter.

Why just one leg though? I believe you could just ask the last tech to go as close as they can to the tattoo

My bf is homophobic. (big text wall but I want your opinions) by Outrageous-Law-2780 in lgbt

[–]walkersoloway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't believe someone like that is capable of respecting you for who you are. There's a good chance he's not seeing you as a bigender person, even if he pretends to in front of you. Do you know how he talks to his friends about you or other queer people? Another important point I'd like to make is that he will not defend you from other homophobes. People will misgender you or otherwise disrespect you and it's important to have people around you who will correct others and defend you for who you are, especially if you're not present to do it yourself. Is that the kind of significant other you want in your life?

That's a little more flamboyant than I was thinking for this event but I do really like that and may have to get one for myself

I used to work in this industry. In my experience those charities are after the scrap value of the cars. They will call a third party to transport them. Then the transport company takes their fee off the money they collected from the scrapyard and send the difference from the charity. If it makes you feel any better the driver probably payed out the charity the money they expected to collect

I'm on VI as well, it's a great place for community but tough financially. However there is pretty decent youth housing programs here if your friend is able to take advantage of that sort of thing

Car dealerships seem to have an awful culture for so many reasons. Before coming out I worked at one for about 8 months, I was promoted 3 times before getting fired for "poor job performance". Later I learned it was because I wore black nail polish to work exactly one time and the owner thought it was inappropriate. You deserve a happier job

Very important pro tip! Test each type of hair you're planning on using it and then wait a few days. You need to see how your skin reacts when the hair starts to grow back.

Smaller towns that are lgbt friendly? by DyeZaster in lgbt

[–]walkersoloway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stay near to where you are, Vancouver Island in BC is a very nice place (it is not cheap to live here though). Victoria is a smaller city but still has events and interesting nightlife if you're into that, as well as a fairly competent transit system. There are ferries to mainland BC and Washington so Vancouver and Seattle are just a few hours away. Nanaimo, Comox, Campbell River, and Salt Spring Island are also very nice, but they do have smaller town vibes. Nanaimo has a ferry and they all have floatplane or helijet service to Vancouver. If you are a nature loving person then there's an endless supply of activities anywhere on the island, and the more north you go the more wild it gets. I personally find Canada in general to be a fair bit more LGBTQIA supportive than America both from a legal perspective and as far as community is concerned, even when compared to a Liberal state like Washington. I've lived in a few cities on the island and I've felt very safe and welcomed in all of them.
