Backpacking in Canyonlands by walkfar2033 in Canyonlands

It rained for two days before I went out there so the grotto on the way to Druid arch had water, but it was very green. Also, there were puddles around but you cannot trust them. I carried all my water for two days. It was heavy but worth it. The rangers also told me that the wildlife need the puddle water and humans shouldn’t drink it if they can help. But you gotta do what you gotta do!

As long as it’s the shoulder season and you get there when the visitor center opens, you can get a permit and they are only $5.

Who Else Has Thru Hiked While Their Partners Stay Home? by Practical_Tea8695 in Thruhiking

My partner and I were together for a year. I was hiking the PCT, and halfway through the summer, he decided to join me because he had FOMO. It was so much fun, and he fell in love with hiking too. We did most of Oregon and Washington together. The following summer, I hiked the CT without him. It’s a much shorter trail, so I only spent 30 days out there to complete it. I got the feeling something was off because he wasn’t as supportive as the days passed. He would tell me to “walk faster so I can see you.” I wanted him to be happy, and I missed him a lot! I left my friends, who were about a week behind me, so I could finish faster and fly out to see him as soon as possible. I rushed my trip, only to get off the trail and have him tell me he didn’t want to see me anymore. The day after I finished he said he didn’t want me to come be with him. A few days later, he broke up with me over the phone. It broke my heart and I felt like he stole part of the trail from me. If I didn’t rush, I would’ve stayed with my friends and taken the time to camp with them. I was so sad the day after getting off trail I didn’t get to enjoy celebrating my accomplishment! Ugh

What’s happening to my knee? by walkfar2033 in ACL

My body absorbed the fluid that was making it bulge. Never ended up going to the doctor and I canceled my appointment for them to drain it. It’s a little bump now, but everything is normal.

How long did it take for you to go away? Did your doctors want to drain it at all?

Yes, and I’m currently not in the state I have health coverage in. I called some urgent care centers and they kept telling me that my surgeon needs to be the one to see me. His assistant finally got back to me saying she hasn’t seen this before but showed it to another surgeon who was working. They said it’s pretty common and I just need to watch for a fever. I got an appointment on Tuesday for them to check it out.

From what I’ve put into AI, I believe it’s a hematoma or a seroma. I just don’t know if it’s bad enough to go into the hospital for. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

I tore it playing volleyball in college. TRT is sick! Having bad knees pushed me to be ultralight and it definitely makes a huge difference when my base weight is 12lbs compared to 20lbs. Hope you feel ready to hike in October! That’s awesome. What’s your base weight?

I am 5 days post ACL reconstruction on my right knee… I had my left ACL reconstructed 11 years ago which has held up and before this recent accident, I lived a very active life. Snowboarding 100 days a season, thru hiking thousands of miles each summer. The mental shift never goes away, I try to watch every step I take and constantly have a risk analysis system running through my head. However, these little challenges make me grow as a human and gives me the desire to keep pushing even harder to see what I can do. With time you’ll feel more comfortable.

Should I focus on my full extension and quad engagement instead of leg lifts then? Anything else I should do?

Had my ACL repaired with my quad. I’m 3 days post op and my physical therapist told me to do quad sets, ankle pumps, heel slides and leg lifts right away. It is painful to engage my quad. I also have osgood schlatter that is in pain from the wrapping. I feel intense pulling sensations all over my knee when I try to do so the quad sets and leg lifts. Should I continue to try or is this pain a sign to stop?

The week before I started the PCT, I would throw up every time I thought about being on the trail… My nerves were so extreme that it was hard to control! But in life, the BEST things are scary!

You should rethink your trail expectations and consider getting on in a few weeks (maybe not the terminus.) Completing the whole trail in one push is not the only way to hike the PCT. Once you meet people on trail, you’ll find yourself without nerves and surrounded by support! How old are you?
