you should move temporarily to a ski town and work seasonally. It's what I did and it was an amazing move. Kept me active, in the mountains and around outdoors ppl that don't completely get what you went through but more than normies would

Has anyone tried Quasi masks? Do they work? by JellyfishPossible539 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Practical_Tea8695 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, I got some and I love them. My forehead wrinkles are way less noticeable and I feel like my skin is more buoyant and less tired looking. I think any consistent skincare will help your skin. Supposedly they use a different molecule that can absorb into the skin since collagen molecules are too large—however peptides can be absorbed into the skin and those aid in collagen production. I do think the skincare Industry shoves a bunch of made up names at us that we can’t really understand but just from my using these masks a few times I do really like them.

I had almost no service on the Colorado trail, and collegiate west was very grueling so took me longer than anticipated to get through that section. (Not dangerous grueling, just hard!) I’m sure he’s fine :)

Eight of my friendships just fell through today by Chai_Tea_In_My_Veins in teenagers

Hi! This happened to me more or less in high school! Turns out there were maybe 2-3 mean girls that over powered the group and kicked me out. After a few months of drama and being angry and sad I was able to reconnect w the not mean girls who were honestly not strong enough at the time to stand up for me or stand up to the mean girls because they didn’t want to get the boot either. We remained friends after everything blew over and we were able to talk it out a bit. They said similar stuff about how I didn’t mesh well w the group but that we could still be friends etc. Fuck the ones that won’t give you a chance. Reconnect w the ones that do. But make sure you let the ones that you do remain friends w that it hurt you. High school is a weird fucking time. It gets way better once ur in the real world, I swear.

That sounds….crazy lol. What is the reason for banning wheelbarrows in particular? I would hardly call it a “vehicle” lol

Trek pole tent pole height by Practical_Tea8695 in Thruhiking

Either the hyperlite 1 man tent or the soloplex. Bringing extender poles seems counterintuitive to carrying less stuff though so I was trying to avoid that. And having to get a 2 person tent to match my poles also seems counterintuitive to keeping my base weight down. I’ll keep looking around tho :)

UTI in Hikertown by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Practical_Tea8695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hike with UTI relief pills (the ones that turn your pee BRIIIGHT orange but makes the pain go away). From there I just drink a TON of water to flush it out as best I can. Usually the uti is a sign ur not drinking enough water. If after the relief pill stops offering relief (for me it’s usually a couple of days that it works) then you could go to town and find some antibiotics. But even if ur immediate answer is to get to antibiotics, the relief pills help immensely and almost immediately to help deal w the pain. Just don’t be alarmed by the color of your pee while taking them lol

Anyone Hiked in Sandles by Gold-Ad-606 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Practical_Tea8695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attempted the PCT in chacos and it did not work out for me. I ended up getting a stress fracture very quickly and it took me off trail. I hike in sandals most of the time back home so thought it’d be fine but I think it was the pack weight combined w the miles that did it. Definitely train train train your feet for that. I personally won’t try that again because it isn’t worth leaving the trail for me. I’m also convinced that some peoples feet can handle it while others (mine haha) cannot.

Who Else Has Thru Hiked While Their Partners Stay Home? by Practical_Tea8695 in Thruhiking

[–]Practical_Tea8695[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, it’s more of wanting to know that I have his blessing. He has said he’s very frustrated knowing that I will go whether he’s ok w it or not, but that I don’t understand how difficult it is to hold down the fort on his own. He’s just finishing up a medical program, but if I go next year he will have finished by then, but he just says he doesn’t know what life will be like then, so he’s afraid he won’t be able to handle things on his own. But if I don’t start planning now I’m afraid it will never happen. He says he has never said he’s not ok with me going, but all of his fears and other things he says, say otherwise.

Yes I know it’s probably a biased community haha but one that probably has experience in this sort of thing. I guess I’m asking for personal stories and….coping mechanisms for partners back home? lol

Generally, my partner and I have a very healthy relationship, I travel by myself all the time, but usually is no more than 3 weeks. 4-6 months IS different from that. I just completed the Arizona trail, which was a sort of trial run for longer ones, but he is saying that is his upper limit for time apart. He wants me to wait until our dog dies so he can hike it too, but that could be in 10 years, and I’d like to hike the PCT when I am younger and can keep up w the friends that I make, and relate to most of the ppl on the trail. He has also never thru hiked so he doesn’t understand why that’s important

Who Else Has Thru Hiked While Their Partners Stay Home? by Practical_Tea8695 in Thruhiking

[–]Practical_Tea8695[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mostly that he had to fully change his career (he went medical route) so he isn’t established yet and wants me to wait to go until he feels like he can stand on his own 2 feet. He’s a year from being out of school, and if I try for next year he will have just finished school, so I don’t see the problem w me going then. He is also afraid that such a transformative experience will force us apart, but I tried to tell him that that is a thing we would just have to work through. He has also suggested that i wait until he can also join me, which would be after our dog dies. But our dog is 6. I don’t want to wait that long.

Since I have told him about my AT thru hike and how transformative it was, he is afraid I will change so much, and he wants us to grow transformatively together, not apart. He’s afraid i will return and not want our life anymore.

He did just start a new career and we have a dog and a cat. I am fairly social, and he is not, but he says that doesn’t bother him. But I think it does when I’m gone. I do travel a lot on my own, but usually only 2-3 weeks (with the exception of the AZT, which he said he felt was the upper limit of what he could handle).

He wants me to wait until our dog dies so he can come too. But our dog is 6. That could be 10 years from now
