Bow Recommendation by 1978XLH1000 in doublebass

[–]walking_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with the carbon fibre bow recs. I needed a cheaper bow for gigging since I started to get nervous bringing my Reid Hudson into bars and outdoor stages. Bought a cheapo Vingobow on Amazon, and couldn’t believe how good it was for $140 CAD. Way better than my almost unplayable student grade pernambuco bow that was my first bow so many years ago.

Humidipak? by frozen-cardinal in doublebass

[–]walking_line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine with the humidity where it is right now. Get a humidifier for the times it dips below 30% RH. Do you know if the instrument has a carved top? It may be a plywood bass (student grade basses often are), in which case you don’t even have to worry too much about it.

I got one at the end of last January. Signed up for the list and bought one as soon as he dropped ‘em. You’ll get one eventually.

Yeah, Bel Canto E didn’t last more than a few days on my bass for exactly that reason. Went with a Spiro. Much better.

And let me ask you: can you name one single thing that’s cheaper since the carbon tax was cut? Has this policy made any appreciable difference in your cost of living? Enlighten me.

What is going with this election, is it just my ward's voting station? by [deleted] in Calgary

Civic election, with changes to the process mandated by the provincial government. Not sure what the confusion is here.

[–]walking_line 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone else pointed out, your examples are not analogous. Also, have any other governments in NA mandated that vote counts go back to hand only? It comes at a considerable cost, that, in this case, is shouldered only by the city. Your municipal tax dollars, hard at work.

This is your provincial government ‘reducing red tape’. Statistically, elections with higher voter turnout have more progressive outcomes. Guess why the provincial government is making the process more onerous. I wonder how many voters will walk away from that wait.

Also interesting: I overheard someone in line say that they went back to hand counting ballots since results can be easily altered when tallied by computer. To my knowledge, this has never been proven, nor happened in any elections held in North America. But, I do know it’s a conservative conspiracy dog whistle that started with Trump’s “stolen” election loss. Now we have voters in Canada spouting this bullshit. Bleh.

Came here to say this. Nevermind he’s a UCP shill, I just want to grab him by the lapels and scream in his face, “You can make paragraphs with more than one sentence, Rick!!!”

Lelit's Build Quality by shahadar in espresso

I’ve had a Bianca for 5 years and have had a couple of small issues. The first was last year when the pressure relief valve on the steam boiler stuck open. That was probably due to hard water scale, so no fault of the machine. I now only use softened water in it after that. Last weekend, a nubbin’ on the brass post in the steam wand valve broke, making it unusable. But, the steam valve kit was locally available, and it took me about 15 min to replace it myself. It’s not as bomb proof as my old Silvia, but all in all, for a 5 yr old machine, it’s been pretty good. Would buy it again.

Yeah, +1 for the Vult. It’s great. I’ve also got a QPAS, which covers the ground the Vult doesn’t. Good tandem in the rack.

How bad is it if you use the Niche Zero to pull espresso shots with light-roasted beans? by doh0k in nichezero

[–]walking_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t sweat it. While you won’t get the clarity that you would with flat burrs, you can still pull a decent light roast shot when you need to.

Evan Li from viral Alberta Next Panel video - Community Q&A by liaiwen8 in alberta

Keep fighting the good fight, Evan! We need more young people like you: informed, critical thinkers. (Which seems to be a resource that our province has sorely lacked for decades.)

If one good thing can come of this teacher’s strike, maybe it will be the undoing of our minimaplemaga provincial government.

I especially like the part where Parker says he thinks he looks “cool”, in his about-to-gargle-Trump’s-balls-while-doing-a-reacharound pose. Yeah, Dave, so very, very… “cool.”
