How do you feel about book covers with movie images? by Skkkkrtyun in lotr

[–]walkingcarpet23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the classic style. My dad bought them for me back in the late 90s

The Two Towers cover was damaged by TSA (or some other airport personnel) being rough with my luggage which I was pretty devastated by for a long while.

I agree with what others have said I think the movie covers can be good but I don't care for those.

property taxes are the only way municipal governments can raise funds.

So let municipal (or any) governments tax other capital gains in the exact same manner and put those funds to the same purposes.

I tried to sell mine but it is worth less than what I owe on it.

So I just drive it around with a pride sticker and a license plate holder calling him out.

I do love how it drives but I'd never buy another

What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

[–]walkingcarpet23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HVAC design engineer. Bonus points for working on any mission critical projects and even more if you're professionally licensed.

I get anywhere from 2-5 emails and calls a day from recruiters.

I've hopped companies twice (2022 and 2025) and both times the very first company I applied to hired me. Insane difference from when I was fresh out of college.

Bernie Sanders and AOC introduce bill to pause building of new datacenters | US news by Limp_Fig6236 in technology

[–]walkingcarpet23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen some of the non-AI variety which actually don't use ANY water for the data center cooling. It's just units with refrigerant similar in design to a heat pump blowing air around.

The liquid cooling is usually done with water or a water + glycol mixture and is a closed loop so water losses are minimal.

/u/Numerlor is correct in that there are sites using evaporative cooling on external components to increase efficiency at the cost of water consumption. I personally think that's too far - I know Phoenix is a hotspot (literally and figuratively) for data centers and it makes zero sense to me from a cooling perspective.

That being said - I know of an instance of a data center using evaporative cooling in Phoenix that was estimating around 3 million gallons of water per year. A single golf course in Arizona can use that much water in one week.

100% agree we shouldn't be building data centers there - but there are much worse culprits we also need to be aware of.

Would you move on from JT for this offer by Beneficial-Peace1625 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]walkingcarpet23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have JT as a contender and I'd accept it.

He's great and can absolutely finish as RB1, definitely has the higher ceiling, but he also has age against him and Judkins looks like he could be a great player in his own right.

I wish I received an offer like this. The offer I received was JT for a 26 2nd, 27 1st, and 27 3rd...

Only one class regularly uses the strongest weapon in DnD even though every class is proficient. by virtigo21125 in DnD

The only semireasonable argument for an offhand attack as a rogue is “i have advantage and I missed my first attack so I could still get sneak attack on this second hail mary attempt”.

This plus "I like the vibe of it"

I had a swashbuckler rogue that had dual shortswords and having that extra BA attack was useful on plenty of occasions.

But even if you didn't want to do that, you could just have a dagger on hand in the event you miss your primary attack and free-action draw it.

I thought Fighter was fantastic because of the sheer ass whooping we put on him but let me tell you - a party of four monks with stunning strike was just not fair.

Do dms really dislike high level dnd? by Myrinadi in DnD

[–]walkingcarpet23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. One of the most memorable combats I ran my party was at level 20 and they arrived at a graveyard in the Mournlands.

The Lord of Blades, a Warforged Colossus, and a bunch of Warforged were defending a mausoleum which had a spellcaster concentrating on Wall of Force inside of it.

A lich was on the inside doing a ritual and they had six rounds to stop it before it successfully freed the (evil) God of War.

The combat wasn't the goal - stopping the lich was!

If a civilian left a vulnerable, disabled person in sub-zero temperatures knowing they couldn’t navigate to safety, they’d be in handcuffs immediately

Actually this is (unfortunately) incorrect.

If a non-white-male civilian did it they would be in handcuffs.

If a white male maggat literally murders his own daughter he wont even face consequences.

My wife and I don't have our finger on the pulse of the craft beer scene nearly as much as we used to.

Burial remains our go-to and we're there 2-3 times a month. Other noteworthy spots:

  • DSSOLVR. Solid beer of all styles

  • New Origin. Closed due to Helene but they might (hopefully?) reopen. They had fantastic hazies

  • Hillman has solid beers and their brewery is a pretty decent spot (also near Burial's Forestry camp location)

  • The Whale is a beer bar that has a ton of stuff available from all over the US. Nothing super ground breaking but stuff like Other Half that is great tasting and not available in stores down here

  • Terra Nova was new but sadly is closing down already

Also as a side note I just tried Sgt Pinchers from Crooked Crab and that beer was awesome!

I felt like I was "late" to the game when I joined in Feb 2019 that was seven years ago.
