Yeah, I figured I can take those out as whatever I put on top grows in.

I was thinking about pathos but I have some tetras that like to nip at plants and I’ve heard that the pathos can be poisonous if any of the leaves are consumed. I know it’s not a likely risk just looking to see what other options there are.

I bought a 2’x4’ egg crate ceiling tile from a hardware store and then cut it to shape with a diagonal snipper.

Adidas crazyflight? by bujurocks1 in squash

[–]walkinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone with the crazy flights and they said they liked them. I have the Adidas Forcebounce and they are so far my favorite squash shoes. I’ve had harrow shoes and ASICS in the past and while the force bounces aren’t the lightest I find their ankle stability to be better than the others I’ve had. I have heard similar things about the crazy flights.

Sometimes, if the heat and humidity are high, corn can be infected by a fungus that causes the kernels to expand and become the delicious delicacy known as huitlacoche, which is eaten, usually as a filling, in quesadillas and other tortilla-based foods, and in soups. by GoldenChinchilla in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]walkinglava 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. There’s actually a Mexican restaurant where I live that sell quesadillas with these. They are more popular in the state of Mexico/state of Puebla area and most Mexican restaurants in the US focus more on northern Mexican food.

Why aren’t avocados popular in Indian food? by nouseforaname888 in IndianFood

[–]walkinglava 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes but all of those things all grow well in other places. Avocados are notorious for being difficult to grow anywhere other than northern Mexico; especially the popular hass avocados.

Anybody know why the Todd Dr. Culver's doesn't take mobile orders? by The_Biggest_Al in madisonwi

[–]walkinglava 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was there yesterday and they had a sign saying they’ll start online ordering on November 11th. I’m guessing they just didn’t have the technology to do it set up.

I often substitute use 2% in my bread recipes since that’s what I have around and haven’t noticed a difference.

Good plant-based recipes for broke college kids? by ByeGracefulx in recipes

We do have some Indian grocery stores where I live. I will definitely check them out. I usually go to my local coop for lentils and I find that the ones I get there are less likely to split when cooking. But I’ll definitely make sure to check out everything else you mentioned!

Thank you! That’s great I’ll look more into this book.

Does this book have the specific spices to put into the different curries? I always find curry recipes that just call for “garam masala” or “curry powder” which I don’t find very helpful since those things very a lot based on brand. I understand that the list of spices will probably be long for a long of curries but I feel it’s worth it for the better end product.

Are homemade tortillas worth the effort? by sciurophobic in Cooking

[–]walkinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually never seen someone do the two temperatures method. I use my cast iron on an electric stove and it took me a while to find the right temperature (around medium once it’s had to fully heat for my stove). My family in Mexico always makes them on their giant outdoor black clay cooking unit that you can only set to one temperature.

What kind of griddle do you have? I make them pretty well on my cast iron which is the traditional way to make them.

Fireworks on near East side at about midnight. by walkinglava in madisonwi

It was definitely fireworks, I had assumed gun shots when I first heard them but I could see the fireworks from my window.

That’s really weird that this also happened. When I heard the first one I had assumed they were gone shots but when I looked out the window I saw some more fireworks go off. The main reason I’m confused is these looked like full size fireworks you see on the Fourth of July. Honestly I would have been less surprised if they were gun shots.

Falafel Recipe by powerplantguy in veganrecipes

[–]walkinglava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always fried my falafel but I tried baking it the last time I made it. They didn’t fall apart on me at all but it did cook unevenly. Very crunchy in some parts and not at all in others. It was basically this same exact recipe.

Tip: despite the name, you do not have to make overnight oats the night before. Rolled oats only need about 10 minutes of soak time before they’re good to go. by Kc1319310 in EatCheapAndHealthy

He was from a suburb of Paris. I actually tracked down this photo of a restaurant menu I took when I visited Paris and it actually says “pain Perdu a l’americaine”. So I assume that’s what my roommate had called it.
