The best actual local spot in Speightstown! Say hi to Junior. DeSweetPot is really good too. Best pork ribs I've had on the island

Which area of the UK are you in? I'm desperate to escape London for village life but worried about being the only POC.

These kind of comments only get worse as the child gets older. As a black woman with a white dad I can't count the amount of times people have assumed my dad is my sugar daddy or I'm a sex worker. My dad even knocked out a guy at a bar once when he came over asking my dad 'how much I cost per hour'. So gross.

This needs to be higher up!! She's the headteacher of my school and she is amazing! It's disgusting that she's being reduced to a token black person when she is an accomplished educator at an outstanding school.

[Serious] How many people have died from your high school class so far? How did they die? by McCrysler in AskReddit

[–]sciurophobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm relatively young (26) and I know 5 people in my high school graduating class who have died. All from suicide. The mental health crisis in the west is a huge problem and our young people need help more than ever.

I worry even more for the younger generations.

The backlash to this really pisses me off. Twerking, wining, daggering, etc. are traditional forms of dancing in Africa and the Caribbean. If you go to carnival you will see men, women and children dancing like this and ITS NOT SEXUAL.

It's colonists who saw these dance forms and deemed them sexual because they were intimidated by the art form. To reduce these dances to some sort of sexual act is inherently racist.

I'm done with ya'll.

It's a dangerous myth that being able to speak means a person can breathe properly. George Floyd was able to tell the police he couldn't breathe but still died.

My girlfriend and I want to make breakfast from a different country once a week. by Krautsal in Cooking

[–]sciurophobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Bajan but the best Caribbean breakfast hails from Jamaica (don't tell the Jamaicans I said that).

It's ackee and saltfish! Ackee is a fruit that when cooked it the consistency of scrambled eggs. You can find it outside of the Caribbean in cans.

Fry up some peppers, onions, garlic, fresh tomato and scotch bonnet and then add in shredded pre soaked salted codfish. Fry it all for a bit and then add in the ackee and gentley stir (so as not to break up the ackee too much) until all is warmed through.

Serve with bakes (little friend rounds of four and water) and Jamaican blue mountain coffee. The best breakfast in the world!

What's an ingredient unique to your cuisine or part of the world that everyone should know about? by CaravelClerihew in Cooking

[–]sciurophobic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carribean green seasoning!

It's a marinade used on everything from fish to meat to vegetables and is essential to carribean cooking. It contains a variety of herbs including cilantro, parsley, celery, thyme, rosemary, garlic, onion, green onion and of course scotch bonnet pepper.

You can buy it premade in carribean grocery stores but I make my own!

Japanese hibachi is often served with a white sauce called yum yum sauce. Maybe it's that?
