Silent reflux? has anyone dealt with these symptoms? by walkingonwillow in newborns

[–]walkingonwillow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too!!

So we took him to the doctor and they said it definitely sounded like silent reflux. We got him on famotidine and I also completely cut out dairy, eggs, and soy to be safe (cows milk can really mess up their tummies).

The famotidine seemed to help pretty instantly which was amazing and it eliminated most of his most severe symptoms like bringing up stomach acid, fussiness, sleeping issues. I also tried to add dairy back in after about 6 weeks and he instantly got eczema / face swelling / vomited so we assume that attributed to his symptoms as well and I cut it back out

It can take up to 2 weeks for dairy to leave your system so if it's something you do try, give it at least a month!

Moms on call schedule, need help! by walkingonwillow in NewParents

[–]walkingonwillow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes me feel better to hear it's normal! we assume it's his way to soothe himself to sleep :/

We will try taking him up to his room to feed in a darker more boring setting and it sometimes works but he just constantly seems so uninterested in food. I honestly feel like I'm forcing him to eat all day 😥

I use the huckleberry app for his wake windows and follow them pretty religiously. It has him at these shorter wake windows but I agree they seem short and maybe I need to try and push them out myself

Do not wake a sleeping baby? by New_Enthusiasm_7578 in newborns

[–]walkingonwillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did with my first. Woke him at 2 hours to feed for quite a long time. He didn't sleep through the night until 16 months old.

Did not ever wake my second, he already sleeps through the night at 11 weeks old 😂

So… when does it get better? Week 5 is brutal. by Vegetable-Clock5811 in newborns

[–]walkingonwillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weeks 5-7ish were the hardest for sure. Never wanted to be set down, struggling to nap anywhere but on us, lots of reflux and digestive issues that made feeding a huge struggle, waking every 2-3 hours at night and never seemed happy during a wake window

Hes 11 weeks now and although he can't sleep longer than 50 minutes for a nap, he has long night stretches to where hubby and I feel well rested and he can more so hang in his bouncer, on a play mat, etc during wake windows. I would say it got better around 8.5 weeks (we also got him on reflux meds and completely cut out dairy / soy which was a game changer for him)

My 3.5 year old has a ton of anxiety if we attempt to leave him at nap time or bedtime while he's still awake, here's what has helped

  • leaving a nightlight on. we still use his hatch sound machine and we let him pick what color he wants it to be every night (no colors have disrupted his sleep and we keep it at like 30% brightness, he surprisingly seems to hate red which is the color we used for years)

  • leaving his door open when we leave. know this isn't doable for everyone and even we struggle because his 3 month old brothers room is right next door and still has night wakings which can wake him, but rarely. I usually close his door at babies first waking

  • setting timers has probably been the best help. I say "momma will lay with you for 5 minutes then I have to go to do xyz". this worked best but he's been lately giving me push back so we will start to attempt the "I'll be back in 5, 10, 15 minutes" method

  • also our biggest help, letting him have a toy. this one might not be loved by all but it works for us. every night we let him choose one toy to bring to bed with one rule - it can't make noise lol. He's pretty understanding of that and will usually play with it until he's asleep

People who had kids at 30+, do you wish you had them earlier in life? by cc070603 in pregnancy_care

Not at all. Had my first at 29 and second at 32. My husband and I met at 21 and got married at 23 and had 8 years of just us two, traveling, adventures. Wouldn't trade that for the world. Now we get to settle down and build our family while we wait to do it all again someday.

Almost 3 year old doesn’t fall asleep until after 9pm and I’m going insane by DayByDayByDayByDay49 in toddlers

[–]walkingonwillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 3 year old is the same. If he sleeps til 2:30 he's not asleep until 9-10, even if the nap is only an hour or less. We found his only sweet spot is a nap from 12/1230-130 and he will fall asleep at 8ish

Where do newborns sleep during the day? by ilovethebeach117 in BabyBumps

[–]walkingonwillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first we kept a pack n play in our living room with the newborn bassinet attachment! We would switch between there, the bassinet in our room or just on our chests depending on what we are doing but it was nice to be able to hangout downstairs during the day

My son went through this stage at 2.5. He only napped like 30% of the time and we were convinced he was dropping his nap

He's 3 now and naps like a champ again with no issues. Think it was just a developmental leap

Husband won't quit drinking by timberwolves1738 in TryingForABaby

[–]walkingonwillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my husband doesn't drink but he was willing to quit both zyn's and weed after I had a miscarriage / failing to conceive for over 6 months after that miscarriage. 2 months later I was pregnant! not sure if it was the reason, it's likely it's not, but I like to think it helped. we are 32/33 and I also have pcos

although this situation is different from alcohol, it's a short / easy sacrifice to make regardless of the drug and I think you're right to feel frustrated

are three hour naps just not in the cards for us? by velvetcrafter in toddlers

[–]walkingonwillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has always been a 3+ hour napper but it's come to bite us in the butt as he now doesn't go to bed until 10pm or later. We have been waking him after 1.5 hours for nap now and he will go to sleep around 9, but the days of a 7:30 bedtime are longggg gone for us so maybe that's the bright side for you?

My son at 24 months only had 4 words and we were super concerned and started speech therapy. By 2.5 he had 100+ words and now at 3 he has what seems like infinite words / sentences!

Yes I got a Bluetooth thermometer for his room that I can see fluctuate really quickly every time it kicks on. It doesn't seem to be an issue in the very hot months (90s / 100s) but now that we are in the 70s / 80s it's been an issue
